We stayed for 3 nights and this is a great location, across from the promenade towards the old city, It is easily located within walking distance of great cafes and restaurants, and wonderful walks down the promenade in the early evening and morning. Views from room were good but I would ask for front room not a corner as ours was. The rooms are quite despite the traffic close by. A 40 minute drive has you in Monaco or you can catch buses to Cannes next to the Hotel. Staff were great and helpful, rooms were bright and modern with excellent free WiFi. Parking is in the underground secure car park next door. It is a bit of a pain due to the one way narrow streets but if you do not intend to drive its a great location.

Room Tip: Ask for a front room.

Last-minute change. Rude staff. Crap room!

Having travelled for over 10 hours last Friday, we arrived at the hotel and were told that we had been ''transferred'' to another Mercure. NO APOLOGY was given. No explanation. Being too exhausted to argue, and convinced that they would do compensate us for the last-minute change, we assumed that there was another Mercure on the promenade.

The staff at Promenade des Anglais lied that we should have been aware of the change in plans as we had been sent an email. (No such email was ever sent)

We apparently had been transferred to the worst Mercure in Nice - Notre Dame. The staff at the new hotel insisted that we take a room of EUR200 (the cost of the initial room), not for a double, but a single room. They said that this was what the 'email from the manager' said. However, this manager was not available to take any questions. When we checked, this was more expensive than even double rooms in Notre Dame.

From the lobby, it was obvious that the second hotel was worse in quality. We were put on the 7th floor (apparently the best roooms in the hotel) but they were awful! Pokey tiny. The 'queen size' bed was tiny, light didn't work and the WC was leaking onto the floor. When we complained, we were told that the maintenance man had gone home. The church bells rang every hour straight into our room and the room service did not pick up the phone when called. As compensation, two free drinks were offered at the bar. (We returned the insulting token)

To crown it all, we noticed that instead of refunding our money, it was deducted again - three deductions for one night of discomfort, rudeness and noise.

Again, the phantom manager had 'just gone out'.

The Mercure brand has left a bitter taste in our mouths. We will NEVER go back again.

no frills hotel with convenient location but entrance via side street. Unattractive and congested reception. Rooms and bath are just about right, with hardly toiletries. Breakfast is lovely and staff there are very enthusiastic and efficient. In fact its the best part of the hotel.

Room Tip: book the sea facing rooms only!

We were just a little disappointed when we found that our room was in a side street and not actually on the Promenade des Anglais. We went here 3 years ago and having booked a room with sea view on both occasions thought that we would be at front of hotel as we were last time. If you want a sea facing room you now have to book a "Privilege" room at extra cost. However we could see the sea from our room and the facilities were excellent. No complaints at all about the actual room. The staff were generally pleasant and the public spaces have been renovated recently and looked good.

Room Tip: If you want a room on the Promenade des Anglais book a "Privilege" room.

The location of this hotel is perfect, situated on the Promenade de Anglais where you can look out over the beautiful sea and watch the beautiful people walk by! We chose a superior queen room with sea view and the room was lovely, the view is spectacular. The room was decorated in a modern style, has a good size bathroom with shower and nice toiletries. The room had tea/coffee and espresso machine. We had free water on arrival plus 2 free glasses of champagne at the casino bar (casino is on ground floor), also 2 free day passes for the local bus service which was really useful. The staff at the hotel are very helpful and polite. The continental breakfast buffet was great, plenty of choice and nice and fresh.

On the downside, although the balcony was the full length of the room it was not wide enough for a chair which was a shame. Because the hotel is on the busy promenade it was a little noisy at times with cars passing by, however this could not be avoided with a hotel on the prom.

Overall a great hotel and recommended.

Stayed here for 3 nights in April. The hotel has no frills, in that there doesn't appear to be a bar or real restaurant (they serve breakfast, but I think that's it). But if, like us, you want a hotel that is excellently situated, spotlessly clean, has a comfy bed, decent bathroom and very helpful staff, you really can't go wrong with this hotel!
It is near the old part of Nice, which is the best place to be.
It is right by the Promenade des Anglais, with ample cafés and restaurants nearby (try turning right out of the hotel, instead of left {left takes you to the promenade} for plenty of choice of places to eat and drink). Hotel charges approx €19 per person for breakfast. We didn't bother because for €5 you can eat a great breakfast outside a cafe watching the world go by.
We took a taxi from the airport. The taxi rank is directly outside Arrivals. Approx €35 each way, but definitely worth it.
The train from Nice to Monaco was so easy and Monaco/Monte Carlo is not to be missed while you are in the area. Drinks at the Cafe de Paris, outside the Grand Casino in Monte Carlo.... Wow!!
Other stuff worth doing in Nice: the flower market and the park are lovely and worth half a day to walk round.
All in all, I would have given Mercure 5 stars if they'd have had a bar for a drink after a long day.... This is the only thing I can suggest. It was very clean, comfy and both well placed and well priced for a short break in Nice

This is definitely the best location for a hotel on the Promenade des Anglais. Not cheap but the Privilege rooms overlooking the sea are modern and have everything you need. Don't however book the breakfast! Overpriced and very basic offering the same choice every day. Dirty cups and crumbs from tables just swept onto the floor. Not what you would expect from a hotel of this standard. Plenty of breakfasts available in nearby cafés for half the price. No lounge or bar available in the hotel. We would however definitely use this hotel again as it is close to the old town, markets, bars restaurants and shops.

Room Tip: Ask for a Priviledge room as these overlook the sea. Other rooms are quite dark ( but cheaper ).
