“A great place to stay, mainly for the view!”
Reviewed September 15, 2011

My other half and I stayed here for four nights in September. We paid extra for a superior room with a sea view. Paying the extra was definitley worth it as the view from the balcony was stunning. You can see from the airport to the west to the old port to the east. There is a perfect view of the sea and the horizon from the bed. The room was very clean on arrival and was cleaned every day of our stay. The bathroom is open plan with the room which is a little odd but looks quite cool and there is a good shower. The air con is also very good so there are no problems sleeping in the heat.

The hotel is perfectly located on the Promenade with a short walk to numerous cafes, bars and the old town. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel. I'm sure its fine but when there are so many cafes nearby it seemed a shame not to use them! The hotel also has a deal with the private beach opposite and if you ask at reception you can get a discount voucher. The private beach is worth at least one visit as you get a comfortable lounger all day and waiter service for drinks and snacks. There is another private beach, Beau Rivage, a little way down the Promenade to the east. We went hear on our last night for dinner and it was absolutely lovely, great food and the sea lapping at the shore next to you. I would thoroughly recommend a visit here for any couples staying in Nice.

Overall the rooms are expensive, but it's in Nice and everything is expensive. For the same price we paid here for a night you could stay in a luxury hotel elsewhere but as long as you appreciate that before you arrive you should enjoy your stay.

Room Tip: Superior Sea View room is definitely worth the extra money.

Nice is my favorite city in southern France. The Pronenade DES Angles is the perfect sea side avenue for a romantic pass. View is unlimited and the Mediterranean sea is a magic!! Really perfect stay !!

The location of this hotel is great, because it is literally across the street from the sea and the rocky beach! It is within an area where there are alot of local retail shops, cafes, restuarants and entertainment. There is a casino right next door that is pretty dead on most nights. The hotel is very small and consists of three floors only. Above the third floor is another hotel called the Le Meridien which is a higher end hotel, where we should have booked. The interior of the hotel is VERY VERY tacky, with all sorts of weird colour combinations. Do not let the pictures of their rooms on their website convince you otherwise. The service staff were very friendly and helpful (expect for one person only). The breakfast is absolute garbage!!!! It is 16 euros per person per day and it closes at 10:00 am. If you get there at 9:30 am, do not expect to get eggs, sausage and bacon, because they do not replenish the food items as they are consumed. You can go into the local area and eat breakfast for considerably cheaper price. What most people pay for this hotel is way more than what it is actually worth. Here are a few other things you may want to consider when booking this hotel:

1) The elevator is extremely small and can hold no more than 4 pple at once
2) There is only ONE channel in English and that too it is BBC, that recycles their news stories every 30 minutes
3) The room is spacious, but the functionality of the room (I.e. the safe, toilet and tub) is minimal
4) Very close to the airport

Hope this review helps! I wish somebody had posted a review like this when I booked this hotel. If I had read the review like this before we booked, we would never have booked it.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the sea! These rooms looked way better than the others!

This was my first time in Nice. I made the reservation just two days before the flight and was lucky to get the the last available room from Mercure Nice Promenade des Anglais.

When I arrived the room was really a positive surprice! I had a view to garden, but partly also to sea. Both were visible from the bed when wake up, really awesome! Room has been renovated recently, it was very nice and clean and had a terrace too. Air condition worked perfectly and was very well adjustable according to the current needs. Everything was just perfect and I almost couldn't believe it!

Location was also more than perfect, just to walk over the promenade and you were on the beach. So it was easy to take even a short swim whenever you wanted. Another great thing was the old town which was not more than 500 meters from the hotel. Bus to Monaco left also very close from the hotel, and airport bus stop was just around the corner. Railway station was not too far away neither, it took about ten mins walk to get there. Place Masséna was very close as well as Avenue Jean-Médecin.

The breakfast was good, albeit quite expensive: 16 euros. Despite of the price I enjoyed it every morning. The assortment was relatively wide, eg. fresh fruits like ananas, youghurt, eggs, bred, cheese, cold cuts, and of course croissant and Nutella.

Service quality was changing depending of the current occupation. Part of the personnel was very friendly but some of them were not very polite, more a bit rude. But still the level met the hygiene requirements.

If - and when - I go to Nice again, I will definitely use this hotel. The total experience couldn't be better!

ps. I recommend the buy surfing shoes to the beach since on windy days the rocks may hurt your feet and it's not easy to out of the water without the shoes.

The hotel's location is simply brilliant: step out and you are in the pedestrian zone with all the eateries and shops, take a left and you are at the beach, walk a few steps and you get to enjoy the Massena and Albert 1er gardens, walk for less than five minutes and you are in grand Place Massena and another two minutes and you are in the Salaya again with the lovely restaurants and small boutiques. It does not get better than this even at hotels that are of a superior star rating. In addition to its unbeatable location, the rooms are clean, spacious and some have lovely views of the garden and the sea (it is definitely worth paying extra to get such a room.) As it is a three star hotel, you do not get the frills you expect at other four of five star ones: robes, slippers, etc. However, at a reasonable extra 11 euros, you get a very decent breakfast that can easily sustain you till dinner with a good selection of cold cuts, cereals, crackers, breads, brioches and crackers, jams, eggs, etc. They provide free internet which is a huge advantage, and you do get access to a private beach area at a nominal fee. The service is good and the staff are professional. My only recommendation would be for them to provide a porter/bell boy. If ever again in Nice, which we hope to do, this is where we will stay. While there, you have to check out La Voglia Eatery: taste is out of this world, portions are gigantic to put it mildly.

Room Tip: Take one with a view

I recently stayed at the Mercure on the Promenade des Anglais after a gruelling bike event. The hotel more than met my expectations. The rooms were clean, airy and tastefully decorated and I cannot remember having had a better night's sleep for quite some time. The service was fabulous. Breakfast fell short every so slighty but was still very good. The value for money was very good overall. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.
