This is a 2 star hotel, maybe a strech to 3, but is not on the same level as the 4 Stars we usually stay with. The location is good. The rooms have not been updated in quite some time. There is no on site parking. They do have a nice breakfast but no dinner.

We would NOT recommend this hotel! The lobby was 4*, but we did not live in the lobby. The room was wery tiny. It was a problem to have 2 suitcases, normal size, in the room.
There is a lot of hotels with good location with great rooms and service to a better price.
The service was not good either, everything took long time at front desk.
Stay away from this hotel. Bad value for money.

Stayed here 5 days for business in May. The location is really the best feature. Right near the main walking area for dining and shopping, old town, etc. Rooms are clean and nice but nothing special. I booked a "privillege" room. Could stand some updating but generally good for typical European hotels. Staff was friendly and helpful. The internet is wireless and was a bit spotty at times. I had to go to the lobby at one point to get connected. The water temperature varied over the course of the shower from hot to cold which was pretty annoying. Breakfast was just OK but nothing special. I am not sure I ever saw the bar open but sure could have used a few drinks on that trip.

4 classes of rooms - classique, traditional, privelege and deluxe. We booked a traditional at 120euro per night for 2 including breakfast on the internet. While the hotel is classified 4 star, classique and traditional rooms are much lower standard than this - they would not be anywhere near standard of a Travel Lodge or budget hotel in UK.

Our room was poky and grubby, with furniture like from a 2nd hand shop.

However if you are either prepared to pay the extra for the higher 2 rooms (30euro per night), or want to just complain... then you could be upgraded.

This worked for us but they did play a good game, at trying to get more money out of us, in the end they upgraded us to the 3rd class - the "privelege" without paying extra, but that took a bit of complaining! The room was nice, completely new bathrooms and services were very good.

Question is whether this is normal in France, and you could experience the same thing at another hotel. Also we thought we were getting a bargain on the internet, yet they advertise the same price as a special offer outside their door!

Location is super and the breakfast was surprisingly very good. Nice is a lovely spot for a weekend break - good deals on dining out, though not a good place if you drink a lot of beer at 6euro a pint. Bus and train travel very cheap, only 1 euro to go to Monaco and Monte Carlo on the bus and super scenery on the way, or hire a bike for 14 euro and cycle along the great cycle route (all flat) to Antibes, only 15km, and a lovely artisan town.

This hotel is located within walking distance of the beach and old town. It is located in a beautiful turn of the century exterior with all the rooms renovated. The rooms are beautiful with huge bathroom and bedroom. The service is perfect and they also offer free internet. One of my all time favorite hotels

I stayed at Hotel Massena the end of March 2009. The Hotel was in a great location and within a few minutes walk of shopping and the old town! We had room only and the room was very basic but exactly what we were looking for, we got a great deal on the price!

My family and I came to Nice in the second time to have a part in Carnival and stayed at the Massena Hotel for 10 nights. We were very pleased with the hotel and level of service.
The first surprise was up-grade privilege room to deluxe free of charge! The room was very bright, clean, spacious, with just renovated large bathroom and seperate toilet. Also it was well equipped: tea making facilities, mimibar, LSD, safe, bathrobe. The second surprise was the great view from two balcons- our room was at the corner of 5th floor!
Next pleasant thing was- the location of the hotel couldn't be better, especially if you travel with child: in two steps from Massena place, Albert 1st gardens, the old town, shopping, bus and tram stops, about 12 min. walk to Nice Ville Train Station. It is close to all hot spots, but situated on enough quiet street.
Also we liked interior design of hotel. There are many stylish hand-crafted things, pictures, black&white photos. It creates so warm and cosy atmosphere!
The staff was extremely polite and the service was excellent- quick answers on my e-mail, help in reservation, information maintaining at reseption, room cleaning service... During carnival time the staff wore fancy ball costumes and we felt general mood of Carnival. They really made our stay enjoyable and comfort!
Very good breakfast- all was fresh and tasty, enough various.
Highly advise anyone to stay here, will re visit the hotel with pleasure.
Many thanks!
