“Very nice hotel”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

Good hotel in good location. The rooms are nice and functional, although the bed wasn't that comfortable. There is even a kitchenette, we didn't use it but it could be useful if you are staying for more then a couple of days. The reception staff was great - very kind and helpful.

After spending a week in Nice we didn't see any better locations or hotels we would rather have stayed in.

Positives:
- Great value for money
- Good room size, clean, comfortable
- Good location - Not in a busy tourist centre so quiet, but 2 min walk from the tram stop which makes much of Nice easily accessible. Big Carrefour across the road which is perfect for those who want to prepare their own meals
- Roof top pool available if required
- Receptions staff helpful
- Free WiFi in reception

Negatives:
- The kitchen could have been better equipped with utensils

We'd planned the first part of our holiday down to the nth degree, but for the tail end were doing last minute stuff. So wherever we could get a bit of wi-fi we'd look and book for the next couple of days. That's how we stumbled on this place. The deciding factor here was that it had a pool, and Nice weather looked like staying warm for our stay.

On arrival we found that the pool was closed. Bummer! Up to our room, where we found not a bed, but a pull-out couch. We thought there was some mistake, but no. A quick bed test found it comfortable though. Disadvantage of this arrangement though was that there were no bedside tables to empty your pockets onto before retiring for the night. There was a small kitchen in the room, but none of the things you would normally need, like washing up detergent or dishwasher powder: You had to buy these from reception.

The room was only service every second day. If you wanted a daily service you again had to pay extra. Air conditioning was another issue. It was warm in Nice, so good to have. But no matter what setting we put the in-room controls on, warm air flowed out of the vents. We even tried 5 degrees and COLD for a couple of hours. Still warm air. Eventually we turned it off completely and opened the balcony doors for fresh cool-ish air.

The hotel isn't close to the centre of town, but does have the tram line close by. At 1 euro per trip, or 4 euros for a day pass that includes bus routes as well, it's great value. Also there's a very large shopping complex just across the road.

Staff were magnificent. Very friendly, and eager to offer advice on just about anything. One young lady in particular gave great recommendations for local eateries that we followed up on and enjoyed immensely. Next day she was interested enough to inquire on how we fared. Free wi-fi is available in the lobby; wired network access in the rooms. As a result the lobby was often full of people using phones, tablets, iPads etc.

This place was different, and a bit quirky, but not a bad spot to base yourself in Nice.

The hotel is located in old town area, the location of the hotel is quite good. You can find Carrefour and Mcdonald once you step out the hotel, the studio has a small kitchen, so there won't be any problem about food even there are not too many restaurants nearby. The room is small but interesting. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful during our staying. The only problem we had was the bed in the room, it wasn't really a bed but a sofa bed which is very soft and have a frame attached to the bed. We needed to be careful when we climb in and out the bed otherwise we would hit ourselves to the frame. Overall, Hipark is a fair choice for budget travellers.

We've been on the road now for about three months, so decided we wanted something a little different and special for a couple of nights to destress, and we also chose this because it had a pool, and we knew that it would be warmish (mid 20's at some points). Reading the reviews of this, we thought we'd found somewhere quite good.

And, all in all, it was... quite good. The staff were very friendly and helpful for everything we wanted. It had an in-built kitchen(plus a supermarket across the road) so we cooked a few meals which saved us money.

Unfortunately it also wasn't perfect. When we arrived, we were told that the pool was closed for the season, which is disappointing given that it was very warm while we were there. When we got up to the room, it was quite warm so we turned on the air conditioning. We left for a while and when we came back we discovered it was even hotter. We inquired at reception and were told that the air con units had been turned to 'heating' for the winter and that there was essentially nothing that could be done about it - so for all intents and purposes the Hotel had no climate control.

The kitchen was also under-supplied - no cleaning cloths, no dishwash detergent, no sharp knife for cooking.

So while the place was fine, it didn't quite live up to expectations. It could be really great if a little more attention to detail was paid.

Room Tip: Do note - WIFI in foyer only, hardwire in rooms

I booked this hotel very last minute on lastminute.com as other accommodation fell through.

I read reviews here first and was excited but a little apprenhensive - mainly about location. I needn't have worried.

The hotel is situated a 3 minute walk from a tram stop which is two stops away from Garibaldi/Place Massena and the main shopping district. To walk it is about 15 minutes down a main pedestrianised road with only trams running down it. You pass many lovely
boulangerie/patisserie and local shops and I personally liked being slightly out of the centre as it encouraged us to explore more and see new areas.

The hotel itself is immaculately decorated, styled and equipped. Opposite is a large shopping centre with Sephora, pharmacy, large Carrefour supermarket, McDonalds with free Wifi and late night food/McCafe.

On arrival the staff were smarty dressed, efficient and incredibly helpful (unbelievably so for France in particular). I had paid online and they took a quick photocopy of my passport and registered my credit card in case of any charges on the room (we incurred none). Whenever we needed directions/advice they were willing and friendly and provided maps and recommendations for transport/ timetables/ where to eat... I speak French so tended to talk with them in their language but their English was also great.

There is wifi for free in the lobby - and only by cable in the bedrooms. This is my only minor complaint: I have an ipad and therefore no ethernet cable supply for internet in the room. This is a minor issue, however, and there are gorgeous sofas and arm chairs downstairs.

We stayed in 515 (fifth floor) with a view of the mountains and local area and side streets. We had a good sized balcony and the room had great double glazing, did not seem overly small to us but maybe that's because we both live in small studio appartments in the UK! Our sofa bed was already made up into a double bed with clean white sheets and orange accent cushions. The kitchenette was brand new with high quality appliances. The tv, curtains and other furnishings all felt of excellent quality: more than the price I paid.

The bathroom was, again, immaculate and the shower/bath was powerful and hot - no pressure/temp issues as previously mentioned in reviews. The towels were miniscule but I am used to that as most hotels seem to think they're catering solely to rakishly thin children in the bath towel department.... I'd rather just have one large towel and no mini flannel/hand towel! Small gripe there & can be applied to most hotels!

Room was cleaned once in our four day stay which is perfectly acceptable and normal to me. There was a safe provided free of charge that was easy to use. We had no neighbour disturbance (in fact, never heard/saw anyone - except in the lobby and lift). Weird thing to comment on my the lifts were very efficient and never had to wait more than 5 seconds for one, just a small thing but it can be annoying if you're in a rush to be waiting for a dithery lift!

We used the gym once and it was perfect! New equipment and tv. The pool was shut but probably could've remained open due to unseasonably warm weather (26 degrees C +).

One last piece of feedback: the aircon wouldn't work (I didn't ask but presumed it was switched off for the year as out of season). I was very hot at night and left doors ajar once left me with 8 mosquito bites!

All in all the HiPark was a fantastic hotel in every sense of the word. The decor, styling, safety, friendliness, efficiency, freedom it offers etc. would make me definitely go and stay there again.

Stayed at this apart hotel in Aug 2012 and its exactly as it says on the tin. Smart, well looked after contemporary design great kitchen with 2 rings, microwave fridge , the suite we had was perfect for me my wife and my neice. The sofa pull down bed was very comfy and quickly converted to a bed and back to a sofa in a jiffy, very easy.
Was a bit strange having no washbasin in the loo but this was the only criticism that I had. The staff were excellent, the public areas were lovely and the breakfast room and the girls looking after us were magnifique.
The hotel is only a 10 minute walk down to the prom and Nice old town and I picked it because I have been to Nice a few times and had seen the location. The supermarket and a McDonalds are just opposite and you can save quite a bit by getting fresh ingredients and cooking your own meals, although I did this only once after a hangover and was desperate for an omelette with all the trimmings thrown in lol.
One thing to be aware of was when on the first day a Korean lady was in the breakfast room with her family when three men were seen in the corridor. The three guys had come in via the front of the hotel wandered into the breakfast room and while the lady was distracted getting her self service breakfast stole her handbag. The fire exit was strait ahead coming out of the room , behind the reception desk out of sight of the staff and the men got out this way and away down the street.
That being said the hotel staff I talked with said this had never happened before and they were as shocked as the poor lady victim
All in all its great base to enjoy the delights of the Cote D'zure.
