To be fair...we didn't even stay long enough for them to take our order. But we could just FEEL something was off about this place.

All we wanted was a glass of wine and a view and to rest from hiking up and down the castle hill in the hot sun.

The place was half empty - I speak "tourist" French well enough to communicate that we were there only for drinks and for a view and would like to sit in the shade.

He suggested what we later referred to as siberia - an area of the restaurant far away from all the other tables, and without any place settings. No one was sitting in this area...it was literally at the edge of the restaurant (and with a very limited view).

We negotiated for a slightly "closer to the action" table and sat. We waited. For 10 minutes. A server finally came to ask us what we wanted to drink, but we were never given a menu, much less place settings. We asked for a menu. He brought one. And then another several minutes went by. By the looks of the menu this place clearly caters to tourists...(small selection of wine, margaritas, mojitos, cosmo's etc...you get the picture.)

Meanwhile we watched another couple be seated immediately in a prime spot -- the same gentleman who sat us conveniently popped open an umbrella, providing shade and handed them two menu's. The table gave them the perfect view of the ocean and the riviera. The table we would have wanted, if it had been offered.

Hmm.

Another five minutes go by and a different man takes that other couple's order.

I don't know who they are... or why they were being treated differently than we were...but we immediately felt like we were being purposely ignored. Like many on here have pointed out they come off as if they are too good for tourists in their own minds...yet are probably relying on the tourists for income.

We left. And wandered down the way a bit to the Quai Anglais Restaurant or cafe or something...where our server spoke five languages, was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and gave us prompt and courteous attention. It didn't have the same view or the same ambiance but I'd much prefer nice, genuine people to bring us mediocre beverages in a highly trafficked tourist area.

Thought the public beach shares the same staircase, we decided to check this out on our last beach trip. It was much more difficult to enter the water here than it was at the public beach just steps away. The service was TERRIBLE. We had to track someone down to take our order after several attempts. When we ordered, nothing we ordered was available and what he brought was raw.

42 euros for 2 sunbeds and 1 umbrella. We knew it was expensive, but we wanted the best place to chill and sunbath in nice. Although we arrived early and it was pratically empty, they didnt let us choose our chair, in the front and central. Just after 3rd row and on the corner. Whatever. Service wont come to you at the chair, u have to go ask for whaterver u want. 5 euros for a less then half glass of rose wine.
We had lunch there. 2 pastas, one with clam and the other with squid, oh sorry, dont have squid, only octopus, and its 5 euros more than what its written in the menu. 2 exaggeratedly big dishes - who eats all that amount of food?? - be sure to share it. The clam shells were broken with pieces spread in the pasta, very unpleasant. the octopus was overcooked and wasnt properly clean. We just left the dishes full there. Asked for water, TAP water, and a coke. i said again, tap water. he answers: ok, just the coke then. He brings 1Coke and 2 Evian bottles, but since they were already open when he brought it to the table, I thought well he understood the tap water, I guess its ok.
But then he charged 5 euros each. I talked to him and he said "you should've said tap water".
I answered i did say it loud and clearly, twice. He just answered "oh so I didn't understand. " and left, wihout any apologies.
If u look at the internet, some famous actors have been there already. So they think they're just too good for regular tourists, and u will feel the judgamental looks.
Not worth the price. Terrible food. Go to another private beach. U will definitely pay half the price for real food and service.
