“Quirky vegetarian Restaurant in Nice”
Reviewed August 10, 2011

Although i am not a vegetarian my partner is so we decided to try one of the only vegetarian restaurants in Nice. We found this from the reviews on tripadvisor and weren't disappointed. If you are looking for a 5 star restaurant then this isn't the place for you. It's on a back street and looks a bit like an entrance to a garage but is really cool inside.
Although the menu was small the food was delicious and the owner was lovely.
Even to the point of us trying to offer a tip she didn't want one, however we persuaded her to take it. You can't say that about many restaurants in Nice!

“A rare treat for the vegetarian, great service”
Reviewed February 22, 2011

My friend and I are the kind of vegetarians than don't get to eat in vegetarian restaurants very often, so after flying into Nice and taking a wander around, we sought out this tiny (5 tables) place, behind the Nice Etoile shopping centre. The owner is an American lady and long term vegetarian. It is decorated in the wholesome welcoming style of old-school veggie restaurants the world over. The menu was explained in detail, dishes could either be ordered as part of a set menu or individually. We had veg pate, miso soup, a gratin of buckwheat and sweet potato, and a potato and leek tart with tempeh on the side, with lashings of fresh salad with avocado and olives on the side. Bread was good and plentiful and there were salted sunflower seeds, a range of condiments including nooch, and water on the table. For dessert we took apple tart and herbal tea. Everything was vegan and (mostly) gluten free and she was most knowledgeable about any cranky eating habit you could care to muster up a question for. We left feeling saintly and nourished, glad to take a break from the usual egg and cheese overload of eating elsewhere. Jan left us with some advice about our trip and told us she would put the tip we left her into a collection box for the local animal sanctuary- what a nice lady!

The food is fresh, good value and the cook remains faithfully to her ideas and beliefs. She does an amazing job to turn out honest vegan dishes. Merci..

“Great Food, Wonderful Company”
Reviewed March 22, 2010

My last night in France was my best meal. I dined a Le Speakeasy, a sort of double-entendre that fit this obscure hole-in-the wall. In this tiny place, I enjoyed the company of the owner, Jan, a couple down from Devonshire on holiday, and a couple that had just arrived from Australia. The conversation was matched by the food. I was served a seitan dish along with qunoa and a vegetable melange. All the food was healthy, balanced and delicious--what my body craved after so many overwrought rich buffets at Club Med. We closed the place and the meal was a bargain at €21 including two glasses of organic wine and a coffee.
