Stumbled across this bustling bistro during a short stay in Nice. We were pleasantly surprised with the starters - the grilled sardines for me and octopus with yuzu and mache for my wife. We both had fish for our mains, again well prepared and delicious. Fruit sorbet to finish was exquisite. Good regional wine list - try the local Bellet or Cassis. Service was a bit hurried, but this was a busy spot, and we were never let wanting. We would go back - so many good dishes to try.

We stay around the corner and often walk past this charming local seafood restaurant. We did try it once last year, and were quite impressed. The bistrot part is less formal and probably cheaper too. So we booked a table inside since it was a hot day, and it was cool and cosy. The service was impeccable, and so was the food. The lunch time set menu was outstanding value at Euro 17.50 for 2 courses. Or 21.50 for 3. The dish of the day of rack of lamb was superb! Generous portion, perfectly executed (medium rare) and served with a mild jus. Our friends' St Pierre was moist and sweet, as reported. The place is charming, and if you prefer the sunny terrace you may grab a seat on a first come first serve basis. We are definitely going back soon.

The food here was very good, although nothing was quite perfect: the lobster in the risotto was rather overpowered, and the service was reasonably efficient without being particularly friendly or welcoming. For the steep price charged, we would generally hope for a little better. We'd consider going back - but there are other places we'd go back to first.

Excellent food, service & atmosphere. We dined with our daughters. The waitress was extremely friendly & described in detail all the dishes we wanted to know about. Seeing Monsieur Rolancy in the dining area asking for feedback on the food was good. I would highly recommend the restaurant.

Like your correspondent writing of a 21st July visit, we too have been going to Les Viviers (now Rolancey's-same chef, now chef proprietaire) both restaurant and bistrot for years and always had the best of experiences. We were there on Saturday 20th and they were having a meltdown. We heard and saw several partial explanations why--including several direct conversations with Maitre Rolancy--too much to go into here and not all of it necessarily "true". In essence we had booked in the restaurant and arrived to find it closed (just that day after some slow days overall) with everyone being taken into the Bistrot, where the staff were stressed beyond their ability to cope. Lots of covers that night, and goodness knows why they accepted the bookings knowing what staff levels they had. Maitre Rolancy was serving and taking orders. Not best. Stuff was happening around us , and we eventually had an outstanding main course-but as you know I am skimping on the details. The waitress ( maybe the same one), initially offhand, but I son recognised was very stressed, became better when the crisis point passed. There is much more to say, but .... with annual holidays coming up ( they tend to close in August) let them all break for that, maybe best go early M Rolancy!, and hope they come back and recover their consider poise having reflected on a couple of bad restaurant management type decisions, regarding staff and bookings, but maybe driven by the economics of a bad July take. We WILL go back , hope they are there, and hope they are in the right place, organisationally and mentally. He is a great chef, who runs a great restaurant, so let's hope he and the great team ( particularly the hugely experienced two gentlemen in the Restaurant) work their way back to their confident best.
