“once upon a time...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2013

It's magic! If you watch the short video on the entrance you will understand and look closely to the details on the gardens and the castle. If you love castles and fairy tales, you will get lost in you imagination of this magic place. A love story indeed, where the ones who restored it and lived there, had the passion for art and it makes it even more magical.
He said it himself, that he never stopped restoring, because when it's done you stop working and that was not his point. That's why it may look a little abandoned, but again, I think that's what makes it magical, it's a fairy castle, not a modern one.

“A unique fairy tale confection of a Chateau”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

Other reviews, from * to ***** explain that this is not for everyone. It certainly is not an attraction for young children. And if you love to visit the stately homes and National Trust properties in the British Isles, then this will give you a "what on earth is this all about?" feeling. My 5-star rating is because it appeals to me, and when I've taken guests from the UK they generally find it "fascinating"

Other favourable reviews describe why the little town of La Napoule is good (it has a Mimosa Festival), and how the setting of the chateau is attractive. After visiting one should take the little walk along the beach and walk a little further round the bay.

Inside the property you can pay €3 to walk through the grounds and €6 to do the grounds and the interior by compulsory guided tour in French with a printed English translation. The tour takes 45 minutes, The guide will speak in good English if there are no francophones in your group.

You'll get the most enjoyment by imagining that the Harry Potter crowd are in the next room. And during the tour you must pay attention to the biographies of Henry and Maria Clews -- it's only when you've been told how fabulously rich and eccentric they were that you'll understand the strange art, carvings, sculpture and so on. I have now dome this tour three times in four years and I am beginning to get to grips with it. I do think that knowledge of some of the buildings in the Harry Potter movies helps one to understand when Henry Clews created this make-belief fantasy world. It's also interesting to learn of the great celebrities he entertained in this faux historique place.

Keep your eyes open and you'll see some WW2 "reichsbunker" construction from when the Nazi's requisitioned the chateau

As I say, not for everyone, but if you need a change from Cannes, St Tropez, Nice, and St Paul de Vence then La Napoule plus its chateau and the beachside walk is good for three hours

“Charming backdrop to a little beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2013

The best view of this fairy castle is from the marina, looking back across the little beach to it's side. I had not seen a picture so was possibly expecting a tacky pink painted building - but no - natural stone and very idyllic. The town of La Napoule is lovely too and even if you don't like boats wander along the edge of the marina and you will get a fantastic choice of restaurants to cater for all tastes.

“Not to be misses if you are an art lover”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013 via mobile

Beautiful lovestory behind this castle. Two American artists created their special place to live, work and love. Marie and Henri were defintely out of the ordinary and made their dreams come true.
Inspired by Don Quichotte this is not to be missed when you are in Cannes or around.

Be inspired ...

“gorgious location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2013

A really lovely looking venue but like a cake in a shop window is more lovely to look at than eat! Apart from the appearance there is little to keep you there - no superb interiors & gardens on the opposite side to the sea which has a small narrow terrace. Wonderful to hire for functions but not for day visits
