“VERY NICE, CHARMING, CENTRAL HOTEL”
Reviewed January 13, 2014

Perfect central location just a few steps to the beach and shopping area.
Charming, old fashioned, clean room with TV and free wi-fi.
Very helpful staff.
Absolutely a great value for money.
We will surely be back and I really suggest it .

This is a charming, old-fashioned (in a nice way) family-run hotel which is currently being modernised although the owner says it will still maintain its character. It is in a great central location next to shops and just a few minutes from the beach. Our room was very comfortable and I would definitely recommend it for those who dislike modern chain hotels and want something with a real French atmosphere. Our stay was in November so we also had a good price.

Room Tip: The hotel frontage is on a street which might be a bit busy in the summer. We had a room at the bac...

Dear Madam, We are very glad you enjoyed your stay at our hotel. I would like to express my thanks to you as reading such a great and positive commentary is giving us so much energy to work with.
Please note we currently equip the entire Hotel with soundproofed windows consequently all the rooms of the Hotel Richelieu will be quiet.

A small family run hotel, clean, relatively sillent, good beds, nice price (off-season, october 2013) 48€ p/night for two people, without breakfast.and not too far from the shore and the fabulous Cocteau Museum. Don't leave Menton without seeing this great very modern styled museum with works of Cocteau and his friends: Picasso, Matisse and others of his epoque. It is not obligatory to have breakfast at the hotel, book without it, and try to buy your fresh and warm croissant or pain au chocolat at some bakery and eat it with a cup of tea or coffee at any café in town or just simply on the beach in the nice sunshine. Mind, if you plan to go to Italy,..... cross the border and have a 'real' Italian Expresso !! Compared to the French, Italians are masters in brewing coffee If you travel by car, try to get rid of your vehicle (which would be not too difficult off-season) and explore town -and beach- by foot; I advise to reach Menton by train or bus during high season from Nice as than it gets very hectic in town... Everything in Menton is within walkable distance and .It is worth while to have a look at the Italian side of the Riviera, for the day or even a couple of days, and with an open mind and not being scared, try Italian prepared seafood. You can eat 'International Pizza' everywhere in the world Pizza is not really a representative example of italian cuisine Be brave & have fun !

Room Tip: Un hotel en centre-ville, pas trop loin de la plage ainsi que du Musée Cocteau, collection Severin W...

A very clean old fashioned hotel situated in the centre of Menton .
It was a real breath of fresh air to stay in a non corporate hotel. Yes the bathrooms were small but were spotless and had loads of hot water . Comfortable bedrooms and very friendly helpful staff. I would definitely stay again.

Clean but small rooms ,expected for an old hotel, lift worked ok, we had trouble getting on to the Internet and the reception wasn't manned all that often. Defiantly don't get the front rooms as the garbage gets picked up along the street at 4am ( sat and sun ) and the street sweeper comes through at around 5am and the trucks start to unload from then on. But everything is close and it is easy to get around there, the beach is just down and the old quarter is not far. The botanical gardens was worth the trip, a long walk but worth it.

Room Tip: Don't get a front room

I stayed here July 26 2013 after walking the GR52 from Sospel. The Richelieu is a clean, comfortable, inexpensive hotel well sited near the heart of the old city, with an elevator — a must after days on the trail! Breakfast was minimal but good; the staff was attentive and friendly without being at all intrusive. I'll stay there again next time.

My husband and I had a great time in Menton, Cote d'Azur, just a couple of minutes from the Italian border where we stayed at the Richelieu Hotel. At your foot-steps you'll find everything you need. Bus stop, shops, restarants, supermarket all are really worth a visit. The Fete du Citron is in Febuary, if you're around the Cote d'Azur, please don't miss !
