During a relaxing drive across southern France, we met a woman who said she'd really enjoyed Monton. We'd never heard of it, but with our computer we were able to check it out. Just east of Nice on the Med, a kilometer from the Italian border, Monton looked promising, as did descriptions of the Hotel Napoleon. Being less interested in an ocean view that a good night's sleep, we requested a room in the back, overlooking a garden/patio. It was a smart choice. Our room was spacious, well equipped, very clean, with a good bathroom , and reasonably priced -- in short, everything a Canadian might hope to find when travelling in France.
We promptly negotiated an extension of our stay. The very friendly front desk staff managed to juggle oncoming guests and we stayed a memorable 7 days. Our rate including a particularly good breakfast choice every day, not only the usual display of breads, croissants, dry cereals, juices and fruit, but bacon & eggs to order, with all the trimmings. Marvellous!
The hotel has limited but adequate parking, and we essentially parked our car for the week and, with my wife in a wheel chair, walked the mile or so between town and hotel.
The always accommodating front desk and bar staff recommended two restaurants in particular, one nearby, a high-end Italian restaurant (I forget the name), the other (Cote Sud) in town and more down to earth. Both warranted a return visit, which speaks well for the recommendations.
Visits to Nice, Monaco and other towns along the Riviera were easily made via the train system, which is frequent and inexpensive. Like (I assume) most towns along the Med, the focus of Monton is the beaches and shopping, both of which get a heavy play from the tourists, many of whom seem to return to the town on an annual basis.
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Napoleon and would return in a heartbeat if we found ourselves in the area.

This hotel is right on the sea front but has its own pool and gym facilities if you don't want to venture to the beach. The bar is very stylish and the staff excellent. Our room was very comfortable and we were very pleased indeed with out choice.

Modern rooms. Good breakfasts. Particularly impressed by pains taken to locate missing gold cufflinks and by service generally. No restaurant but snacks could be provided.

This was our first time to the French Riviera and unfortunately only stayed in Menton one night in favour of staying in Monaco for longer. This was a mistake. We will definitely stay in Menton on our next visit and day trip to Monaco and other riviera cities.

The hotel is lovely with very friendly and helpful staff. The room was a good size with air conditioning and the view from the balcony of the port and beach is priceless. A buffet breakfast with fresh fruit, yoghurt, hams, cheeses, bread, pastries, tea, coffee and juice for 12 euros was acceptable given english breakfasts cost around that much.

The negative was the price of the internet - 30 euros for 30 hours.

It is about a 10 minute walk to old Menton and 15-20 mins to main beach strip.

Thanks for the great review!
Regarding the cost of Internet, there has been a mistake as hotel guests should get Internet for free (since July of this year)! We only charge people who are not staying at the hotel.
Please get in touch and we will organise reimbursement.

Very nice hotel. Situated a short walk away from Menton-Garavan train station. Very good location, near the beach and restaurants. The staff are very friendly, the room was clean and had a comfortable bed. I also enjoyed the breakfast, very good fruit juice, selecion of fruits, crossiants and cereals. I would defintely go back the next time I visit this area. Also a short trip to get into Italy which is what I did.
