“No tea making in the room and no evening restaurant”
Reviewed March 9, 2012

Very nice hotel. Generally very friendly staff, nice location right on the seafront. Pricey when compared with UK hotels but still this is the South of France. Surprisingly one of the staff members didnt understand the principle of English tea with cold milk and automatically served me Chamomile! No tea or coffee making facilities in the room which is an important one to me.
Decor and cleanliness excellent. Very nice restaurant, not too expensive immediately next door.
Would stay there again.

Room Tip: As a single traveller I was given a large room but it was twin bedded. However, they were happy to...

We stayed during the lemon festival in February and found this hotel reasonably priced, conveniently located and comfortable. Parking could be a problem in busy times - the public parking nearby has a 3 hour maximum limit, which would make a day trip impossible! It didn't bother us as we took the bus wherever we wanted to go, which was much the easiest way to get about. We were able to walk to Italy along the coast. The bus trip to Nice and Monte Carlo runs from a stop just outside the hotel and got us there easily and cheaply in a day. The windows are double glazed, which is useful - Menton can get quite noisy with traffic.

Great location on the sea-side and just a short walk to the town centre. Underground car park useful - pity we had to pay for it.
Friendly and helpful staff . Breakfast area a bit cramped but food very good - traditional French / Continental style .
Beds a bit small and firm but room overall was fine with a lovely balcony over looking the Azur blue sea.
Would have been nice to have tea making facility in the room for that early morning ''cuppa''.

I and my wife stayed at the hotel in September 2011. The hotel are very comfortable for sea vacation. The breakfast was small but enough for us. The room has equipped wireless internet access. Solarium and Jacuzzi on the top floor are beautiful.

Room Tip: Only see view - the back side doesn't interest.

Stayed here overnight for a late November visit to French and Italian Rivieras. Convenient to all--including San Remo.Indeed, we had ice cream and tea sitting at nice beach restaurant in Menton on the promenade and then headed over to San Remo for dinner and a walkabout town--its just that close. Back by 10pm. Hotel is extremely clean. Lobby nicely decorated; room was fine as was decent-sized bathroom. Good value for money (even though the euro to USD hurts that a bit). Towel heater in the bathroom was a cool touch. Roomy enough (we had a triple). Fair-sized balconies and directly on Route de Soleil--so views are incredible. Walking distance to everything on the lovely promenade. We caught a great weather weekend. We did not do breakfast (11 euros for a buffet, 7, 60 for room service). The buffet would probably be a good deal--if you have a decent appetite or simply want seconds for coffee, etc. But we decided to have "le petit dejeuner" in Nice. The Solarium was closed for the season but it is a nice draw. Parked in front of hotel with no problem and there is a lot right next door (after 7pm on Sat free and it's free all day Sunday). So we didn't pay for parking. It's the off season so parking was not an issue even on the streets.

Room Tip: Upgrade to sea view room. Ask for high floor.

excellent hotel in a great location right on the promenade, if you pay extra for the sea view (worth every penny) you wake up every morning to a stunning view, though if you are a light sleeper, you may find the sound of the crashing waves a little noisy. the staff are first class, very polite and helpful. we arrived on the 110 airport bus that stops right outside the hotel to find we had left our jackets and passports on the bus. the reception manager reacted very quick to get us a taxi to the bus garage before the bus left on its return journey so we got our belongings back very quickly (panic over!) the roof top solarium with great views and 2 great jacuzzis is a great facility, we used it every day. the rooms (and balcony) were spotlessly clean, we had lunch bought at the market on the balcony most days, the balcony was perfectly adequate for its purpose. we would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: I think it is an extra 9 euros for a sea view, the 3rd floor upwards would be the best option for th...

Overall, we had a good stay here. The hotel is immaculate and the room was spotlessly clean. The only exception was the balcony, which was absolutely filthy and which I had to clean myself to enjoy sitting out there. Also, the majority of the balconies on the first floor were absolutely TINY - there wasn't enough room for the table and chairs - we ended up having to put the table in a corner in our room just so we could access the balcony without having to walk sideways! We paid around £120 per night, which we found was the best value on the Cote d'Azur for a great location with a balcony overlooking the incredibly blue sea! It was a shame that breakfast wasn't included. They could also do with having an iron and board in the room aswell as tea/coffee making facilities but we have found this to be standard across European hotels. We were told in advance that there was no parking spaces left for us to reserve, however there was usually a free space at the front and the side of the hotel and the large car park to the left of the hotel was free on the weekends - hence we didn't have to pay for parking once, which was great. The Promenade du Soleil in front of the hotel was extremely noisy with traffic at all hours of the day and night, however there is a roller-shutter door which blocks out all of the noise and light, which was wonderful. Menton is a gorgeous place and we preferred it to all the other resorts on the Riviera. Overall, I would recommend the Hotel Riva and would definitely stay here again if they could guarantee we would have a room higher than the first floor so we would get a good sized balcony.

Room Tip: Ask for the highest floor possible
