“serious restaurant for those who like their food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2012

La Palmea is the kind of restaurant for those who like good service, good food and an ambiance to match. There are menus at 32 and 41 Euros which should easily cater for all tastes. There is a reasonable wine list starting from around 20Euros a bottle. The presentation of the dishes is modern without being the content being minimalist! The staff are ever present are service comes with a smile.
All in all a trustworthy place to visit with confidence that comes with a nice view over the port of La Napoule.

“Still the best!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

We have been many times to La Palmea and this is still the best restaurant for real french cooking of a high quality and it remains consistently so. Menu prices are very reasonable for this quality, however wine prices are on the high side and could do with more choice at the lower price range..

Starters and deserts particularly are quite simply works of art! Service is efficient and you always get a warm friendly welcome from Guy and Dominique.

I usually write a review with the prime purpose of pointing out some areas of dislike. This time it is to praise this restaurant with no serious negatives at all. We eat out regularly and in the Cote d' Azur coast it is not easy to find quality, consistency, and service and this is what you get at La Palmea.

I have not yet been to their recently opened restaurant in Cannes (Felix) but shall do next trip.

“If you are coeliac do not go here”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2012

The chef did not bother to consider my problem and thought lettuce as starter and a dry unattractive looking fish as maincourse would be acceptible as a 40euro menu! Other restaurants in Mandelieu are so excellent and charming when it comes to having a coeliac as guest. I obviously would not return. This particular night they were not very busy but the young chef would not even come and discuss it with me.

“Traditional haute cuisine at La Napoule”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2012

This part of the Cote d'Azur has a plethora of decent restaurants serving fresh fish, simply grilled, and there is little to choose between them. If you want to move upmarket and have a craving for more traditional French cuisine, with rich, buttery cream sauces and the rest, La Palmea offers a fine dining experience which justifies the recognition it has been given in Michelin for the past three years. It occupies a slightly raised site, just across from the La Napoule marina, on the corner of the little street that leads down to the five-star Oasis Restaurant. It's not as grand as that, but it has a full view of the seafront through its plate glass windows, the cooking is seriously good and the menu of €41.90 per head is excellent value. There is also a promotional menu, with simpler fare, at €29. Guest are greeted by a petite, elderly madame, who used once to be seen at L'Ondine in Cannes. Now she presides over a thoroughly professional team both front of house and in the kitchen. We were a party of five and our starters ranged from excellent hot foie gras, courgette flowers with a creamy sauce, and my own choice of casoulette of lobster, a hot creamy soup with fresh pieces of lobster under a roof of puff pastry; the dish was rich and delectable, and remained hot to the end, thanks to the bowl being correctly preheated before being filled. For main courses, one of our party had an authentically battered veal milanese with spaghetti napolitana, while the rest of us chose different varieties of fish. These had all been de-skinned and filleted in the kitchen, and had fine garnishes of vegetables, including carrots and fennel; they each came with a rich, traditional, creamy butter sauce, served in sauce boats on the side, delicious reminders of a past age when diet food and nouvelle cuisine were yet to appear in European restaurants. The desserts were also serious examples of going back to traditional basics and getting things right. The red fruit melba had fresh strawberries and raspberries with loads of Chantilly. The rhum baba managed to be both light, moist and full of rum. Meanwhile, I decided to cut the creamy richness of my main course with a simple dessert of fresh pineapple and orange, so thinly sliced that they must have been put through a finely calibrated meat slicer, and marinated in a sweet light sauce. In short, Palmea does a terrific job for the upper-middle market and offers great value for money.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2012

All aspects of our visit to this restaurant were sufficient to justify the high rating we have given it. The atmosphere is relaxed but the staff are attentive and make sure the dishes are served just at the right time. The food is fresh, well cooked and visually attractive. Overall the price/quality ratio is more than satisfactory. Merits another visit.
