The Belles Rives - A Dream Comes True.

Where the Great Gatsby meets the Real Life.

The Hotel Belles Rives and its famous Restaurant are situated on the seaside road that leads out to the Cap D'Antibes, less than a five minute walk from the center of Juan-les-Pins. The hotel is perched majestically above the water with its own pier, dock, and private beach. The building reflects the Golden Era of the late 1920s when F. Scott Fitzgerald and Florence Gould made the Cap their favorite playground. Just as the Colombe d'Or in St Paul-de-Vence is a mecca for art lovers, the Belles Rives is truly a mecca for lovers of the art of fine furniture signed "art déco."

The hotel is still run by the family of its creator, Boma Esténe, an exiled Russian who came as a poor refugee to the "Cote d'Azur" in the early 1920s. While working as a servant, he met Scott Fitzgerald, who lived in a little house by the sea. Boma dreamed of building a great hotel in the increasingly popular Juan-les-Pins and with the help of Scott Fitzgerald, he managed to buy the little house by the sea. Together they transformed it into a hotel. Shortly before the hotel opened, they got the idea that the hotel should be decorated by first class furniture of the day. They went to a much admired craftsman, who made an entire line of unique handmade pieces, all beautifully styled "art déco" furniture, aimed at pleasing the expected important guests. Somewhat later, an article was published in a magazine extolling the beauty of this seaside haunt. The article was a tribute to the hotel, the rooms, its restaurant, and the beautiful location, with only one criticism - the furniture - so hideous it could only be compared to soap cups! Mr Esténe was furious, but the expensive furniture had to give way to a more traditional style.

Years later, even in France, the beauty of "art déco" was appreciated and the family brought the furniture out of the dark, almost as new, to be admired by todays visitors.

The rooms are comfortable, beautifully decorated, and some offers guests a private balcony. To enjoy the hotel to it's utmost, be sure to reserve a room facing the sea. Its nostalgic atmosphere is best captured on the jetty where lunch is served by the sea, "pieds dans l'eau," just next to the private beach. Dinner is served in a romantic setting on an upper terrace wrapped in bougainvillea, with a splendid vista of the sunset behind the craggy Esterel Mountains.

In most hotels guests seek the spots where local go instead of vice versa. The Belle Rives is an exception. It's one of the few hotels where locals from all over the coast come to enjoy lunch on the water, or to go waterskiing behind one of the hotel's shiny wooden Rivas.

It's easy to understand why Scott Fitzgerald met the Great Gatsby here… published in 1929.

Dear guest,

We have just read your review and are happy to learn that you enjoyed your stay with us.

Your kind words about our reception and concierge team have been forwarded to the whole team. As you says, the atmosphere of the Belles Rives is quite unique. The building is protected by the French Monuments Authority and, as we have stated in previous answers, we cannot modify the size of our rooms. Regarding the beds, we have never had such a complaint; nevertheless, should you like to communicate us the room you stayed in, we would be pleased to verify the quality of its mattresses.

We look forward to welcoming you back to our property to celebrate special occasions.

May the charm of the Belles Rives and the sounds of our sea remain with you for a long time!

Yours Sincerely,

We were in Juan les Pins with the sole objective of visiting Belle Rive. If you are an art deco fan or for that matter a devotee of F.Scott Fitzgerald entering this hallowed building transports you to the 1920s

Having read about the beauty of its art deco interior I was not disappointed. The gleaming entrance doors, the elegant vestibule, sophisticated restaurant and simply stunning cocktail bar area. Outside echos the roaring 20s with cane tables and chairs

The English speaking bar manager was helpful and courteous – despite our total spend of only 55 Euros for a bottle of Chablis we were royally treated. We plan to return and report on the bedrooms

Spent 3 nights, side sea view room. Good location, free on street parking, nice outdoor terrace. Large bathroom and dressing gowns. Poor service - waited for tea, then received hot water in teapot and no teabag! Close to town so easy to walk along promenade. Pontoon closed, which was a shame, as limited space outside. Hallways need refurb/redecorating.

Dear guest,

First of all we would like to thank you for your stay at the Belles Rives as well as for your review since guests’ remarks are the best way to improve our service.

We are very happy to learn that you enjoyed the hotel, its location and its terrace.
On the other hand, we regret that our service did not match your expectations. Please be assured that immediate measures have already been taken in order to avoid these inconveniences in the future.

Regarding the hallways, we are pleased to inform you that the Belles Rives is a historic hotel. Our aim is to protect the Art Déco building with its original and unique decoration, always updating the services and the comforts. The hallways are the copy of those of the cruise liner “France” that was inaugurated in the same years of the Belles Rives and whose miniature is exposed in our reception.

The jetty and the beach club are closed during winter time, but guests can enjoy the sun on the terrace upstairs, the lounges of the main lobby and the Bar Fitzgerald with its unique atmosphere.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Belles Rives. Please do not hesitate to contact us directly as we would be more then pleased to render your future experience a most memorable one.

Yours Sincerely,

This hotel was more of an experience- as we stayed in our room most of the time watching the view. We upgraded from a cape room to a view and it was worth it. The only way to stay here is with the view. Concierge was extremely helpful and spoke english, a big deal when you just want things made easier. I felt like the hotel was pretty removed from the crowds of the south of france which is the way to best experience it. Pricey- worth it. Would go back one day.

Room Tip: view is critical otherwise stay elsewhere.

We went off season - in March - thus could not enjoy the beach location to the full. But the location is great. The hotel is very beautiful with Art Deco interiors. We loved our room, which has a sea view and a big terrace.
We did not eat in the hotel, but had a lovely evening at the piano bar where the pianist was playing for a couple hours for just the two of us - as I say we were off season. The cocktails were great as well.
Service very friendly and helpful. Thank you!

Apologies that I'm only posting this now, but as I am now researching another break, I realise how useful the reviews can be.

So, travelled here in June '12 with my Mum, and the setting of the property literally blew my mind. Juan Les Pins is a beautiful little town, bit touristy, but such is life. The hotel however is just oustside it, so you don't get too much noise. Having said that we had a street side room, and it was noisy in the mornings.

The room was very small, but had adequate storage, and I didn't plan on being in it too much anyway.

Breakfast was incredibly disappointing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it is by far my favourite meal of the day. Very very poor. Basic, cold cheese, meats, bread, pastry, yog and fruits, hot scrambled egg left in a bain marie for hours, no thanks. I would reccomend breakfasting outside the hotel.

We dined within the hotel one evening, and again, I didn't think it was worth it.

Cocktails on the terrace overlooking the view though made up for everything, sublime.

We stayed on site on the pontoon pretty much every day, which cost 15e each per day for the bed alone, lunches were always delicious.

The staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough for you.

One downside is that the hotel provides a right of way to people walking from one side of the beach to the other, which I wasn't too keen on. Depending on where you sat, there was a constant throughput of people, and therefore noise.

I would however go back, as the setting was just something else, if they could just work on thier breakfast!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Stay away from the roadside

Dear guest,

Many thanks for your review dated January 9th. We really appreciate hearing from our guests as their comments are very important and help us to improve our service levels.

We are very happy to learn that you appreciated the location of the hotel, our beach restaurant, the bar and our staff.

Regarding your remarks about the beach, we kindly inform you that, due to the French Maritime Law, walk on the littoral must be guaranteed to everyone, even on private beaches. Therefore, we have created a little path that crosses our beach. This one is located on the back of the beach and, usually, guests are not disturbed by external people.

Concerning breakfast, we are pleased to announce that this year our buffet has been improved with new fresh products which we are sure you would like !

We all look forward to welcoming you back to the Belles Rives this summer !!

Yours Sincerely,

The Management
