“Highlight of our trip”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

We scheduled the hour long L'atelier Des Parfums workshop located in Grasse and this was one of the highlights of our stay in France. After a lot of walking, we found the workshop in what can be considered on the outskirts of Grasse. The train from Nice took about 20 minutes.
Upon entering, there is a small museum type room off to the right and a boutique of soaps and other fragrances to the left. We checked in and were taken to a small room which would be our lab for the hour. Celine was our instructor and we were given a brief introduction into the process of making a fragrance. Next we were given instructions on how to make our signature scent from the 90 or so bottles of scents before us. After we selected our favorite fragrances, Celine gave us a formula in which to mix our scents and add to our bottles. Voila our scent was made and I along with the others in my group were very happy with our creations. As part of the class, we got to keep the 60 ml fragrance we created and were given a certificate of our accomplishment. Molinard keeps our recipe of our fragrance on file so that an individual can email and reorder when their supply runs out. The price for the workshop was 59 euros and we all thought this was a great price for all that we received.

“One of the major fragrance houses in France”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

Grasse is the perfume capital of the world so one of the things you'll want to do if you go there is to visit one of the major perfumeries. We chose to visit Molinard and it was a very pleasant visit. The grounds are beautiful and they admit visitors in groups for the tour. The tour I went on was completely in French and luckily I know enough to have gotten some content on the tour. They have interesting exhibits, show the perfume making process, and discuss many of the ingredients that make up the smells that are so popular. The kids that were on the tour seemed to enjoy it - especially the hands on part when the group got to smell soap and were asked to guess the fragrance of each. Basically, the entire tour's goal is to sell you their product. You'll get to understand how it is made, what makes it unique, and get to sample several products while you're there. The tour ends in the store. Total time was about 30 minutes or so... short enough to be interesting. As other reviewers mentioned, there was no sales pressure to buy anything. If you're looking for souvenirs, you can pick up French made soaps or smaller trial size items that are not very expensive.

I did not participate in the design your own fragrance workshop but did see the space which was set up very well. It could be an interesting option if you check ahead to find out the schedule for it.

“something different”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

I went to Grasse as a day trip from Nice. What a gorgeous town i think a must do if you are nearby. The 60 minute create your own perfume workshop with Paola was well worth doing. Perhaps being december it was quieter but we did not feel rushed - the opposite really. No sales pressure from staff - everyone was very friendly. Very well done and something different.

If you go, catch the train to Grasse and then the blue bus will take you up the hill to the top of the town. Its 15-20minute easy walk to Molinard from there. To get back there is a free bus (#1 starts with f cant remember name) takes you to the bus station where you can catch the blue (funix) back to the train station. The bus service seemed frequent.

“Perfume making in Grasse - the Capital of Perfumes!”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

Molinard is a "must-see" for Grasse; it is by far the nicest of the perfumeries (in terms of architecture and heritage) to visit. It is also my favourite in terms of "make your own perfume".

There is a free tour, in which you learn a little (not too much) about the history of scents and perfumes. There is also a "make your own perfume" class, where you get to design a scent under the guidance of a professional. The range of available scents is very good, and you're assured of making something unique.

We found that the nose (the professional perfume maker) was a little stretched between groups and harried, but was otherwise helpful and very pleasant. Her English was very good. The experience is definitely one to remember.

“tips for tourists”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

I visited Molinard August 2012. The experience was interesting, no fee for the tour but don't expect too many attractions. Tour is very compact, they focus on the sales. After quick tour i even did not understand how i spend nearly 4 century at the shop. I m a very dedicated parfume user but i have 2 different kinds of parfume (I had not heard the names until that time) at home. They are 2 x 200 ml bottle and i m trying to finish them by giving as a present to my family and friends. Don't fall in the atmosphere and dont buy something you don't need. I suggest you that best thing to do is to create your own parfume. My son (10 years old) had pleasure to create his own (it takes 30 minutes). If I had time and had not spend too much money at the shop, I would like to create my own parfume with more complicated way. (it takes nearly 2 hours)
