We unfortunately visited the Molinard Factory on a morning when tours were not running but went into the shop and saw advertised that you could make your own perfume with a trained guide. We purchased the 30-minute session for about €27 per person for my wife and 13-year-old daughter and were guided back to a room set up with dozens of essences and some visual aids to help one understand how you combine these scents into a a complex fragrance consisting of several notes. A good part of the fun was smelling each of the essences and thinking of how they would combine and then testing the combinations. Our guide spoke English and helped my somewhat French-fluent wife learn a few words in the perfume business. She helped both my wife and my daughter avoid some clashing notes, and both walked out a half an hour later with a 30ml spray bottle of their self-tailored fragrance.

Very entertaining tour but it's only in French so if you can't remember your school days french it may be worthwhile just having a look through the historical area. This comes complete with 19th century bottles and displays. Their collection of Lalique bottles is really lovely. The shop has a great selection of fragrances, soaps and essential oils. I love 'O' de Lancome and they have a similar Eau de Molinard but it has lots of spicey/woody base notes that allow the fragrance to linger longer. All in all a very laidback way to spend an hour surrounded by wonderful fragrances.

When you like the art of perfume like I do, and you want a decent 2-hours intro in that mystery world, get a course at Molinard. In a step by step approach, you are guided through the basics of the fragrance families. Then you choose your base, middle and top notes out of about 80 ingredients for creating your own legend. A patient and talented Nose gently leads you, beyond the obvious, to compose your own blend. A wonderfull experience during which, you'll get even more respect for the talent and craft that goes into the creation of fragrancres.

You can take a class where you get to blend about 80 different scents into your own perfume that you take home. One of the "noses in training" leads it. It was great fun.

We were visiting the South of France and knew we wanted to take a tour through a parfumerie. We decided Grasse was the place and Molinard was the one because i have used the perfume Molinard de Molinard and am very fond of it. While we were on our tour we sampled some products, the best of which was Creme 24, a wonderful, rich cream the likes of which I have found nowhere else! My friend (who bought it also) and I have searched everywhere- the United States, I have inquired several places in France including Paris. Please help us find this cream. And if you go, you will enjoy the tour and be sure to try the great products. francandu@comcast.net
