“Clean, comfortable and Good Location”
Reviewed June 16, 2014

Reception was welcoming and efficient and had a lot of information . Pity we couldn't check in until 4pm. Hallway was spacious; separate toilet and bath/shower room- these were all very clean and attractively decorated. Plenty of hot water. Kitchen had all essential utensils BUT lacked tea towels and any washing up equipment ie scourer or dishcloth. Excellent swimming pool and we had a balcony with table and chairs with views across Grasse. Car park (8 Euros a day) nearby and a 20 minute walk uphill into town. Air con quiet and effecient

Room Tip: Our room faced West North West and that was great as weather was very hot but balcony was out of dir...

Firstly, the staff are wonderful. The rooms are very basic but clean. It is a little out of the way and difficult to find. There is nowhere to eat locally and make sure you head off to dinner early as most places start to wind down at 8.00pm. Too early for travelers like us who had not booked accommodation and had travelled all day. Breakfast was very basic - Although few car parks we used the public parking station nearby which was safe. The hotel could definitely use a facelift or full refurbishment.

Le Virginia itself is a strange place, well out of town near to the hospital and what looked like a college. On arriving you do think, what have we done here.

There must be at least 50 apartments/rooms in the block, and I am convinced that these are not all used by tourists or long stay travellers. although the place was quiet, it is a mystery. There are 5 parking places for 50 rooms? The building itself is a bit charmless but if you could pick up the room and put it down in Cannes or Antibes you could easily charge double. I know the reasons behind this, but I guess it must be said that the rooms and for that matter the desk staff are more than fine.

My real issue was with Grasse itself. All the write ups about Grasse and its steady decline will point towards it not being that bad and that it is still a place worth visiting. Having seen for myself the old historic centre and its obvious socio-economic problems I would have to say I will not be visiting again.

We intended on spending a nice afternoon and evening here, but we did not find one cafe that we felt we would like to go into for a coffee or one bar, that as a couple who normally cannot wait to sit and have a drink, looked like the sort of place where you could relax for an hour or so.

This obviously once pleasant and prosperous hilltop town is really at at odds with its neighbours along the French coast, and the huge numbers of economic migrants that have been forced to make their home in many of the run down old buildings is appalling - firstly for them and their obviously poor living conditions and how they are being treated and secondly for the city itself.

A number of perfume houses remain in the city, and these are serviced by tour buses etc, but surely they must be feeling the effects of the cities decline and unless some serious money is poured into the area, their ultimate fate looks bleak.

In short, Le Virginia is probably great if you 'absolutely' have to visit Grasse, but unless you really have to - I would give it an extremely wide berth.

I would only recommend this place to those looking to stay for a night or 2. Though convenient for the station (about 10-15 min walk depending on which way your going, its uphill from the station) its quite a walk from the centre, again up steep hills with little in the way of shops nearby. The staff were friendly on arrival but saw little of them after that due to short reception opening hours. Also on arrival the place looked a little desolate with little lighting and directions to reception.
Was a little disappointed to find extras added to the cost after booking like bedding and cleaning at 45euros, you can do it yourself but apart from the use of a hoover there were no cleaning materials available so you would have to buy your own! There is no cleaning charge if you stay on a daily basis though.
The atmosphere was more of one you would get at a Travelodge or an Ibis, in other words nill but it was quiet and secure. Also if booking a room for 4, don't expect 2 bedrooms, its 1 room with 2 single beds, 1 sofa and 1 sofa bed.

Room Tip: rooms facing the hills have a great view but get little sun, rooms on the other side get the sun but...

We stayed at this apart-hotel for over a week. We did not expect anything fancy so it met our expectations being basic and budget-friendly. Rooms were good, clean and spacious (hard to get in the area for reasonable money). Staff was very helpful and professisonal. Several free parking spaces were available but good guarded parking is located just across the road and is available at a reduced rate. It is not a "hotel" strictly speaking therefore the front desk is open only for a few hours in the morning and in the afternoon (not a problem at all), but the management makes convenient accomodations for after hours. Do not expect cleaning services and towel change (unless you pay extra for that). Internet did not work at times (it is annoying, especially when you really need it). Having a microwave in the kitchenette would not hurt. Location is far from being perfect, long walking distance from the center, but close to the rail station.

Upon arriving we were welcomed by the staff in a friendly manner. They gave us plenty of details about the surroundings and other aspects we needed to know about. the apartment with two rooms was clean and felt pretty new. The swimming pool wasn't very large but well looked after. Oranole a good hotel if you're passing through although I wouldn't stay there too long because of location.

Stayed in September 2011 for 5 days.
Nice, clean room with everything you might need. Very quiet during the night.
Amazing view from the balcony!
Wi-Fi worked only in the reception area, no signal in the room.
A parking near by, which I really appreciated.

Room Tip: For best view ask the high floor facing up the hills
