Unfortunately for Le Mas Samarcande, this was our last stop in the South of France and we had been thoroughly spoiled at Maison Laurent and Bastide Sainte Anne beforehand. We found the house difficult to find and drove up and down the Boulevard quite a few times before working it out. Some clear directions beforehand would have been helpful. When we arrived, after a long day's driving, there was no offer of a welcome drink and I was disappointed at the extremely musty smell of the room we were allocated.

There were some positives to our stay: the owner, Mireille, was very nice and booked us a table at a local restaurant and gave us some tips for getting around. She also provided breakfast a little earlier than usual for our early departure the next day. However, I felt that the accommodation was overpriced at 130 euros. Sound-proofing was poor and we felt awful at having to ask our neighbours to keep the noise down at 11.30pm; although the main doors had shutters, the window did not and the sunlight woke us the next morning; there wasn't a proper shower but merely a shower attachment which you had to hold so showering was a challenge; and breakfast was an uninspiring buffet (although the orange juice and croissants were very fresh). So, sorry for the poor review but after previous five star treatment (for a lower cost) in our week in France, we found this place disappointing in spite of previous reviews.

First of all, please accept our apologies for the disagreement you experienced during your short stay at le Mas Samarcande.  We pride ourselves on giving satisfaction to all our guests and we are attentive to any suggestions that could improve their well being and comfort.

I take this opportunity to comment on some of the points raised in your letter of remarks on your stay :
Access to le Mas Samarcande : all details are clearly indicated on our website. Most people print the map and directions before arriving in an unfamiliar area. GPS equipment guarantees at 99% arrival at the gate.

The musty smell you experienced was due to heavy rains that hit the area just a few hours before your arrival. Your room at garden level and the high percentage of humidity unfortunately contributed to the smell.
For the comfort of our guests, all rooms have their own reversible air conditioning which allows the intermediate seasons, adapt indoor temperatures and to promptly solve this type of problem

Shower equipment ; each bathroom has its own bath equipment. The room ‘Lerins’ is equipped with a full bath and not a shower. All details are clearly explained on our website.

Ray of light under the curtain, I understand how this could be disturbing
We gave full attention to the problem and have now solved it.

Scale of rates. As you may be aware, the scale of rates varies according to locations. In this instance, French Riviera is one of the most expensive areas in France. We are very careful to maintain the best price /quality /service ratio.

Once again, we wish to extend our apologies and are so sorry that you short stay at Le Mas Samarcande was not up to your expectations. Late arrival after a long drive, bad weather, guests, re-entering from restaurant, livelier than usual, did not help your experience at all.

Moreover, an early departure for the airport with a quick breakfast did not allow you enjoy our plentiful breakfast service: fresh orange juice, assortment of French viennoiseries, yogurt, fruit salad, cheese and ham, assortment of dried fruit and homemade cakes and pastries…and a full basket of warm and crunchy bread…

Should you have the opportunity to come back to our area, we would be more than happy to welcome you in order to remedy your unpleasant impression.

this gem of an establishment was by far the best B&B experience we had on our recent European trip. from the elegantly decorated spacious rooms, to the gourmet breakfast, to the charming attentive hosts, all served up with panoramic views of the Cote d Azur. The price was extremely good value for money, and a wealth of knowledge on restaurants, tourist destinations both of the area and France in general.

We stayed 5 nights in August in this delightful place

As expected is was located closely to the Côte d'Azur, only a few minutes driving

The breakfast was served on the terrace looking over the hill

The rooms were extremely nice and clean

We felt welcome in this B&B and when we are in that area again we will go back to this place

Thanks for the good service and the suggestions we received

This excellent bed and breakfast located up along the hills between Cannes and Antibes and provides and excellent view of the surrounding coast.
We were particularly impressed by the layout of the property: the rooms in the back, being below the terrace in elevation, had areas with lounge chairs for dozing while gazing out at the ocean and there were seating areas farther down on the property as well. Everything was extremely well thought out. The room itself was well furnished and in excellent condition.
Not to miss was the luscious breakfast on the patio in the morning: freshly made by the Diots and served on their outdoor terrace with fruit salad, fresh breads and jams, etc.
The Diots also suggested two restauants in the area which were also well worth visiting.
Would return immediately.

We recently stayed for a couple of nights at Le Mas Samarcande. We were delighted with the whole experience. The bedroom and bathroom were lovely and spotlessly clean!!!! They were decorated extremely well with lovely furniture, window coverings and beautiful tiles in the bath. Mirielle and Pierre, as mentioned in other reviews, were very nice and very helpful. We chose to stay in one evening and they added to our baguette with some cheese and tomatoes out of their garden. Being a gardener, I especially enjoyed their lovely garden and our room which overlooked the garden. Breakfast on the spacious porch with beautiful planters was quite plentiful and delicious. I can't imagine anyone being dissappointed by Le Mas Samarcande.

Le Mas Samarcande was our first lodging stop on an amazing August road trip from Nice to Carcassonne, Barcelona and back, and we wholeheartedly agree with the positive reviews of this serene and hospitable B&B. The Diots are gracious hosts, starting from the reservation process, when my inquiry emails were answered promptly and graciously. Our room (Samarcande) was cool and spacious, with room for an extra bed for our teen. Our bathroom featured both a capacious tub and an inviting tiled, step up shower. Bottled water and macaroons greeted us; a welcoming touch. The breakfast, patio dining and hilltop views were a high point. Mireille Diot bakes prepared croissant dough every morning, so the croissants are temptingly flaky outside and chewy-soft inside. Each morning, our resistance was lowered by a generous array of breads, pastries, fruit, yogurts, cheese, cured ham, fruity preserves, fresh OJ and excellent coffee. Our hosts even provided good leads on tried and true, reasonably priced restaurants like Bijou Plage, and suggestions on places to visit. All that and free, good wi-fi connection to boot! We had trouble finding Le Mas initially because Googlemaps had it in a very wrong location in the town below, but Mireille has since had that corrected, and French gps in our rental Citroen pegged it right. We want to return some day to this lovely area and Le Mas would be top of our list.

Room Tip: If traveling with a child, the basement-type Samarcande room is cool and spacious. It offers less o...

What a wonderful discovery. A beautiful property, secluded behind gates in the hills of Vallauris, Magnificent views of the hills and sea from the terrace where breakfast is a treat. The rooms are lovely, especially the ones on the garden. Mireille and her husband made reservations @ great restaurants in the area for the 4 nights we were there. They are terrific hosts and work very hard to make sure their guests have a memorable stay. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: 3 rooms on the garden are a plus. All the rooms are lovely, you can't go wrong.
