“Bouillabaisse Mafia!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2010

Look, it is just one of those restaurants you regret going to -- it's a rip-off. The excuse is the nice view, but when you go there because of the bouillabaisse hype you will surely be disappointed. It is tastes like power stock, and not made from real fish. Even if they tell you it is, they definitely go cheap on the ingredients. It shows when they only serve one kind of fish to go with the soup. Where is the rest of the seafood? Do they know the definition of bouillabaisse?

I HAVE been to the best bouillabaisse restaurant in the south of France. It is called La Bouillabaisse and it is in St. Tropez. You should go, they take credit.

“We only managed to eat in the beach bar part of the restaurant...”

...but it was very nice. Very tempted to return when the main restaurant is open and try the expensive Boullibaise that other reviewers have mentioned so favourably.

“A Riviera classic still going strong”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2010

I have been going to this restaurant for about thirty years whenever in the South of France. It is a Riviera classic right on the beach with a view, the breeze filling the beach restaurant in blue and white colors. Don´t show up without a reservation (or you will be put into the back part of the restaurant) and better bring a nice car it is valet parking and I have a feeling they seat the people according to the size of the car or whether they are known to the owner. The food is simple seafood, specializing in Bouillabaisse, but their sole is also
great so is turbot and other seafood. Nothing is eccelctic, simple food but great quality,
the prices are what you expect from a Riviera classic. It is expensive and don´t think you
can leave the restaurant without a bill of at least 150 euros a person. They serve a white wine sauce (which you should order on the side) with the fish if you don´t like Bouillabaisse or lobster. Standard but good French appetizers and the classic dessert menu. Have a bottle of Domaine Ott Rosé or more and enjoy the evening, may be you even get to see a star or some business tycoon who has an estate on nearby Cap d´Antibes if that interests you.

“Fantastic Bouillabaise and memorable location.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2010

This elegant beachside restaurant enjoys the reputation of serving some of the finest bouillabaise along the coast and their bouillabaise, which comes at a steep price of just under € 100,- per person (the version with spiny lobster comes at € 130,-) is in fact heavenly. It's served in several courses, first just the soup with bread and the famous "rouille" mayonnaise, then they show you the whole fish which was boiled in the soup and a waiter will serve the fish filets to be enjoyed together with the soup. You won't need a starter before and it will be hard to finish a dessert afterwards. If you still want something sweet, I'd recommend to share one of the fruit cakes (they are happily bringing plates and forks for everyone even if you order only one cake). The fritters ("gances") with home made marmelade were a bit too much after the buillabaise and I wouldn't order them again (certainly, one serving of them would also be enough for about four people).
Apart from the bouillabaise, their other speciality is langoustes (spiny lobsters) available in several different preparations, costing € 150,- and looking delicious (still saving to find out more).
Pretty much every guest either eats the bouillabaise or the lobsters and there is little else on the limited menu, so don't come here if you don't like fish.
The restaurant itself is right at the beach and all tables enjoy a panoramic view over the sea (great at dusk). If you reserve early, chances are you'll sit right next to the full-height window and feel almost as if you were sitting on the beach. People do dress up but in a casual way (long sleeved shirts and nice long trousers but no ties or jackets for guys) and there are couples enjoying a romantic evening just as well as big families celebrating a special occasion.
This place only accepts payment in cash and given their astronomic prices (see above for mains, starters and desserts around € 20,-, wine from € 50,- ber bottle) you should fill up your pockets with €€€.
I definitely recommend this place for a very special evening out. My suggestion is to pocket at least € 200,- per head (more if going for lobster) and you might be positively surprised to find a few hundred Euros cash left the next morning...
Reserve well in advance. Within walking distance from the Golfe-Juan railway station.

“Fine food but at a ridiculous price”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2009

A restaurant with a deserved reputation for superb Bouillabaise. What else? Well it's basically a beach cafe with a limited menu and astronomic prices. It's one of those restaurants that enjoys a faithful clientele who are price insensitive. Work on €125 a head for one course and a very modest bottle of wine. And beware; they only take cash.
