“Old walled town - commercialised”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

Tourist attraction of historic hilltop walled town - you get what it says on the tin! Lots to see, is like a stone maze - small alley ways which are fun to explore. Cafe's, restaurants, hotels within and shops selling touristy merchandise. Busy with tourists. Views as expected spectacular. also has interesting succulent garden at the top which requires entrance fee

“Charming town with incredible views”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

This absolutely charming, medieval hilltop village was a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. Comfortable shoes are a must for the cobblestone streets that are a climb! There are quaint shops and galleries as well as cafes. There are so many things to photograph - the views of the valley, the beautiful doors and windows, and the medieval church. Just lovely! We came via a car with driver - parking can be a challenge otherwise.

“The most romantic hill top town in France”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

From Nice, take the 82 bus, which will convey you along the magnificent Grand Corniche.Have plenty of memory in your cameras, for the assault up to the village of Eze is camera-clickin beautiful. There is a peaceful feeling around the area, which will excite you.It is a romantic spot as well as a most beautiful town over looking the shiny azure sparkle of the Mediterranean.
Sun drenched paths lead you along the remains of walls that date back to the bronze age. Check out the imposing and striking "postern",seemingly still waiting to repulse invaders. As you follow the old round path, which can be reached via a staircase just after the second gate...the buttress above gives you the layout to the fortified chateau.
There is lots of wrought iron with colorful wild rose bushes climbing them and look out for the Tromp l'oeil painted in the Rue principal. Eze is a climbing experience, so take your time and stop frequently to smell the roses and sip from your water bottle.
Now you are ready for surprises and rewards. This is a superb example of a hilltop town. Its walls bear the scars of time from the 14th century offensives by the Saracens and the French.
For history buffs......Eze has strategically been part of The Savoy principality
as well as the Ottoman.
You can imagine these narrow streets being climbed by donkeys coming back from the terraced fields of the Aighetta valley loaded with figs, olives, carobs and tangerines.
When you view the coastline from 400 meters above the sea,you will want to hug someone or celebrate with some excellent rouge and fine eats. Choose the restaurant thats perched on the hillside. Its displayed in all the brochures. Camera opportunity central. Reserve a table on the terrace, before hand, as this eatery is the essential memory for gastronomes and those that love looking at the sparkle of the sea and the sparkle in the eye of your partner. Bon appetite.

“Very pleasant to browse”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

Eze is well worth a visit if you are looking for a relaxing way to spend a day. Lots of lovely eateries, galleries and little boutiques. The views are truly amazing. Not for the unfit though as it involves quite a steep climb which can be taxing in the heat. These small perched villages are nice to see but select which ones you want to see carefully as there is a sameness to some of them. Car parking can be challenging at busy times but there is a reasonable bus service from nearby Nice. I wouldn't say this one is disability friendly at all.
