What a great little gem! We stayed in the suite (from the 16th century) in the heart of Eze village. The suite was clean, modern and very comfortable for the two of us. The lower level was the living area with a TV, small table for breakfast, and a comfortable sofa (which may have been a futon, I'm not sure). The upper level was the bedroom and bathroom with a big bed, and a luxurious, modern bathroom with both a shower and a tub that lights up! Up a small ladder/staircase through the roof of the room, you pop up to the small terrace with the most beautiful, amazing breathtaking view of the Mediterranean Sea, Eze Bord de Mer, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Nice to St. Tropez. My husband and I spend as much time as possible up there! The suite was especially nice because it was in the middle of Eze village with plenty of shops and art galleries to explore leisurely. Our favorite time of day was the evening when all the day tourists have left (it got pretty crowed during the day) and the whole village becomes quiet, calm and very romantic.
Fred and Sylviane were gracious hosts who were warm and welcoming! The french breakfast was filled with delicious bread, and preserves as well as fresh fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice and yogurt. It was a great way to start the day. Although we didn't stay at the main house, the brief tour Fred gave us upon our arrival showed a beautiful pool, with lots of chairs to lounge on and lots of space to relax.
Although there was nothing wrong with our stay, here are some quirks-- the bed is large, but is actually two narrow (twin?) beds pushed together. Not a problem, but they are on wheels, so my husband's side slid around a lot and he ended up about 6-8 inches lower in the morning than where he started in the night. Also, since the place is quite old, there are many places to hit your head if you are over 5'8". One more thing of note, payment is in cash or check, so just be aware credit cards are not accepted.

Made a booking for 2 nights, hosts were not happy we could not give the exact date of arrival before we came (as we had to drive for 12h it is not possible to predict when we will be arriving....) so when we arrived we already got an angry face of the owner. They act nice, but some-one with a little of EQ can see threw it, it's just an act.... the rooms are extremely noisy, the worst akoestik I have ever had in a hotel or b&b. If 1 person is awake in the house, the whole house wil be awake 1 minute later... Worst way to wake up in the morning is by the sound of the neighhour on the toilet!
The pool is nice to look at but way too cold to swim in... I don't understand why they don't bother to heat it a litte, it's no use having a pool that is below 20 degrees in august...
Breakfast is poor; cheap and simple.
Rooms are big enough, decoration is "nice try, but not real"
I find it all a little fake... sorry.
We did not feel good for all the time I was there, afterwards we went to "le 2 matote" in Bossslasco Piemonte, this was the opposite, very nice stay there!!!!
for me the house has a very bad vibe....

T and I took a whistle-stop tour to the Cote D'azur last weekend. Tripadvisor advised that the Bastide aux Camelias was number 2 B & B in Eze. A village I'd visited once before but never stayed in.

Eze is very much picture post-card but none-the-less an essential place to visit when in the Nice/Monaco region. It really is beautiful.

As for the Bastide? Well it certainly lived up to its reputation. Friendly owners, tasty breakfasts, nice pool, comfortable rooms and oh so peaceful.

I'd recommend this location particularly for couples seeking a place to get away from it all but within easy reach of major attractions and hill-top excursions.

Oh, and I popped the question to T. And she said "Yes".

A memorable weekend.......

We stayed in the "Suite". Absolutely fantastic. We felt somewhat superior to the residents at the "Chevre D'Or being as we we literally looked down on their suites! Oh, and the cost (a minor point I know!) was considerably less than our esteemed friends at the Chevre D'Or. Sylviane & Fred are wonderful hosts. They leave you alone but are availble if needed. Wonderful hearty breakfasts served early by Fred await your arrival downstairs.
The Bastide is a wonder! It's such a secret that I'm reluctant to share it with you, however Sylviane & Fred desesrve the business.

We spent 4 nights at the Bastide aux Camelias. Fred and Sylviane were the perfect hosts,
making sure that all our needs were met. Fred would make suggestions for restaurants and
make the reservations. Sylviane took care of buying our train tickets online and printing the
receipts. I especially looked forward to breakfast which Fred prepared, with Sylviane's
home-made jam preserves (90% fruit, not too sweet). Our bedroom was nicely appointed
and there is an outdoor pool. The hotel is situated in Eze Colline (top level). Eze village
in the middle and Eze-sur-mer on the coast. Restaurants are in Eze, La Turbie, St Jean
Cap Ferrat, all close-by. There are several beaches 15 minutes away. Our GPS was very
helful as we were quite confused at first between the different corniches and arrived in
Monaco without having planned to go there.

We have recently returned home from a stay at this lovely B&B in the charming town of Eze, in Provence, France. The only regrettable aspect of our stay was that it was too short! The owners, Fred and Sylviane Mathieu, were very gracious and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable; our room was exquisite and very clean, the breakfasts were wholesome and delicious, and they were very helpful in suggesting sights for us to visit - they are truly the ultimate hosts. We are already planning our next - and longer- visit to this charming and exceptional property, - and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a relaxing holiday amid gorgeous surroundings, catered to by charming and thoughtful hosts!

My husband and I stayed in the suite in the village and just loved everything about it. It's like a loft style apartment, first you enter the living room, with mini fridge,tv and even fireplace (so cozy), then up the stairs is a huge comfy bed and bathroom, nb. bathroom is open, but it wasn't an issue at all. Everything is modern and clean and decorated beautifully. From the bedroom is another set of stairs, in the ceiling is a hatch type door that opens up, leading to the rooftop terrace, with an absolute stunning view of the sea. We enjoyed our breakfast and aperitifs on both days admiring the best view ever.
Location- Couldn't be better, it is quiet and just around the corner from the room we had when we stayed at Chevre d'or 1 year earlier, this suite beats it hands down
Hosts- Fred took care of us and brought our breakfast each morning, he was so adorable, friendly and funny, we loved him to bits, the perfect host
Breakfast- so much food, fresh pastries and bread, fruit, muesli, yogurt, freshly brewing coffee right from the machine, hot chocolate, juice and the yummiest honey in the world!!
Room- Clean, gorgeous, cozy and romantic, what more can you ask for?
