I was here in the beginning of June staying two nights with a friend, both Australian, but living in Sweden.
Upon arrival before entering, we were happy with the location of the apartment as it was not too far away from the train station and reasonably close to the famous Boulevard de la Croisette.
We were greeted by the owner who very kindly took my bag up the stairs, but I would have preferred he take my friend’s giant suitcase. Hope it wasn’t because my friend was male. There is no lift unfortunately. The complex was already looking good by this point.
When we got to our room, it looked lovely, but...it was smaller than we thought it would be. There was literally a roughly 40cm gap between the ladder, the wall and the space to get to the kitchenette...then you had to climb over the sofa bed once it was opened. Looking out the floor to ceiling window, we were shocked to see that our view was literally the bottom half of an overpass and the railway of the train station. Yes, we could hear everything passing by.
Reading the rules and regulations, my friend pointed out to me that there was no smoking permitted anywhere in the building, which made us both happy as we hate the scent of it and my friend is asthmatic. Unfortunately, a few hours later when I was needing a serious nap, I smelt cigarette smoke in the room and my friend had gone to the owner to ask for some more sheets. My friend came back telling me he saw the owner smoking in his room. The scent just kept getting worse...to the point it was almost unbearable for us non-smokers. It happened on more than one occasion during our stay, including once early in the morning that it practically served as a wake up call.
The bathroom. My friend had gone in there first wanting to use the toilet. He was calling out to me from in the bathroom that I would not want to see what it looked like, and came out probably 20 minutes later looking slightly ill and saying, “I cleaned most of it, but it’s still dirty.” Obviously the bathroom wasn’t cleaned before we checked in... Our shower was a decent size, but the shower head was detached and could not be put back on the pole so you could have a decent shower. You had to hold it the whole time, which makes things awfully difficult. Also, looking closely, you could see buildup on the nozzle in shades of green and white. The towels were alright, but one of them was definitely stained with something that looked a bit like hair dye...but we can’t be entirely sure what it was. Reddish/orange stain on white towels are very obvious.
The beds were nice, comfy, and large. I had taken the top bunk bed. There were little stains on my sheets already, but honestly, I was so sore and tired that I just fell asleep and tried not to think about it too much.
Something I loved was the glass table that is very small and slim at first, but fills a large percentage of the floor area as a circle table when fully opened. There were also two fold up chairs supplied so you didn’t have to dine without, unless you opt for dining on the sofa.
All up, if you are an asthmatic/hate the smell of cigarette smoke...I probably wouldn’t recommend this place because I think it would be too scary to tell the owner not to smoke, but I’d also rather tell people what to expect. If you don’t mind the smell of cigarette smoke, and just want a place close to everything for a reasonably cheap price, then this is the place for you!
