My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Renior as part of an 8 day vacation in the Cote D'Azur. This was our last holiday as a couple before our little girl arrived and our 2 night stay in the Renoir was the end of our holiday. Our stay at the Renoir was an enjoyable end to a fantastic holiday.
We found choosing a hotel within our budget in Cannes to be tricky, partly because many of our preferred hotels were fully booked. After much deliberation and reading of TA reviews we opted for the Renior. The reason we chose the Renior was that we wanted a decent size room in a location that was suited for the Croisette and the train station. The Renoir was very well located for the train station and we were not disappointed by our choice.
The hotel was about a 5-10 minute walk from the train station and other than initially taking a wrong turn on leaving the train station we found the hotel no problem. As others have noted look out for the Police Station and the hotel is nearby. The main entrance to the hotel is lovely and there are a few stairs to negotiate which we managed fine with luggage. The reception staff were efficient and we were quickly checked into our junior suite. In our experience rooms in the French Riviera are small unless you can afford a bigger room and this junior suite was spacious with a separate bedroom, small living area and spacious bathroom. Our other hotels on this trip had very small bathrooms so the bathroom at the Renoir was absolutely a treat.
The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the Le Croisette and after crossing the busy road beside the hotel the rest of the walk is actually very pleasant. We didn't find the walk to / from the hotel to be a drag at all. My understanding is that the hotel has a special rate with a private beach on the Le Croisette but we aren't really sun bathers so didn't try it out. Perhaps at peak season this could be handy as the public beach in Cannes is very small.
We booked the hotel on a room only basis and paid for breakfast on the morning of our departure. We found the American breakfast to be OK, but nothing more than that. I would avoid eating in the hotel and eat elsewhere. The hotel made restaurant reservations for us on request and we had two fantastic meals in Cannes.
Overall, we found the Hotel Renoir to be an excellent choice for our stay in Cannes. We would have stayed at some of the higher rated hotels if they had been available but in actual fact the Renoir proved to be an ideal location for our stay. Despite the hotel's proximity to the train station / busy road our sleep was never disturbed once. I would absolutely recommend the Renoir if you can get at least a Junior Suite at a decent price.
