My wife and I stayed 4 nights at Le Cavendish in July 2013 and we could not be more pleased with our experience. Le Cavendish offers moderate prices paired with the service and character of a boutique hotel, making for a unique and valuable hotel experience. Visitors to Cannes would do well to book with Le Cavendish.
We located the hotel using TripAdvisor but booked directly through the hotel’s website, which entitled us to complimentary breakfast. We caught a bus from the Nice airport to Cannes, which was an easy trip to make. The walk with luggage from the bus station to Le Cavendish is a bit long which makes a taxi is a reasonable choice. Upon arriving at the hotel we were greeted by a most friendly receptionist who helped us get settled. We met her many more times throughout our stay, and I wish my memory was better because her kindness surely deserves mention here. The staff at Le Cavendish is outstanding. We enjoyed superb service from Raouf in the bar area, and we encountered Ms. Weller, the owner, on many occasions, and always found her very pleasant. She remembered our names, room number, and where we were from, and usually offered advice on things to see and do in Cannes. That kind of personal touch is refreshing and it’s a big reason to choose Le Cavendish.
As I mentioned, breakfast was included by booking via the hotel’s website. This included an assortment of French pastries, yogurt, and various other items. Hot items such as eggs prepared to order were available for an additional charge. We were more than satisfied with the pastries which we felt were of good quality. There is also a complimentary Happy Hour in the early evening, during which an assortment of wines, alcohols, liqueurs, aperitifs, and snacks are available. This is a generous offering which my wife and I quite enjoyed. It is a nice way to unwind after a day of sightseeing and a good opportunity to chat with other guests who come from a wide variety of worldly locations. And a great opportunity to practice your cocktail-making, as the bar is self-serve. Happy hour was good fun.
We selected a Standard room and were quite pleased with the accommodations. The room was large and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. A basket of fresh and dried fruits was waiting for us on arrival. The room was clean, the bathroom was clean, and the water pressure was good. There was a large balcony overlooking a fairly busy street, but the interior of the room remained quiet despite some street-level construction. The blackout shutters are great if you want to get some serious sleep.
Le Cavendish is not a beach hotel; it is 5-6 blocks from the beach. The walk is under 10 minutes and goes through an area of town with lots of shops and restaurants to explore. The hotel offers access to a private beach (Plage Goeland) which we used and enjoyed daily. Warm water and soft sand make the beach very inviting, and the snacks and drinks aren’t too expensive.
As for exploring there is plenty to see in Cannes. We especially enjoyed a trip to Ste. Marguerite island. We also made the trip to Monaco, which was about 1 hour each way by train. The wealth in Monaco is staggering but it makes for a neat experience to wander the area. As for dining in Cannes, we really just strolled around and looked at menus until we found a restaurant that sounded appetizing, and generally we were not disappointed.
Overall Cannes was an excellent and relaxing place to visit. Our plan was to see some sights, enjoy some good food and drink, and most of all relax and unwind at the beach. Cannes met all of our expectations. Le Cavendish made the trip especially memorable. It offers first class service, great comfort, a strikingly friendly staff, and great value. If you are traveling to Cannes and you value personal service, attention to detail, and unique and charming hotel experiences, book Le Cavendish Hotel with confidence.
