“A 'must do' for breakfast!”
Reviewed July 30, 2010

An absolute must for a stay in Cannes is Breakfast at The Carlton. You don't even have to be a guest to do this and for the price - around €34, the buffet breakfast is a real treat (and actually really good value for money as it includes champagne!) and a lovely experience on the terrace overlooking the sea.
The Hotel bar is also a lovely place to take afternoon tea or enjoy cocktails and savour the classic timeless atmosphere. The hotel is absolutely everything you would expect from a 5 star hotel on the French Riviera - chic, elegant - but good service does depend on the time of year that you go! During busy periods, I have to say the staff can seem a little 'tired' of their customers - not really what one expects in a hotel of this standard! Rooms are a little on the small side, but nevertheless, a great experience and highly recommended for the luxurious atmosphere

The rough spots: The A/C does leave something to be desired. Not terrible, but not to American standards of cooliosity in July. Our room, an outside one, was fine, although traditional in decor. [Some other reviewers complained about their inside rooms. The Carlton is U-shaped; so, many rooms faced the courtyard. If your room number is 54 or higher (e.g., 154, 254 etc), it is inside.

But, it IS the Carlton. The staff is superb -- exceedingly helpful and courteous. The breakfast, although pricey, is wonderful, and includes a great scene as well as a wonderful selection. One curiousity (for this American) was the presence of a pot of Heinz baked beans beside the bacon and sausage hot plates. I asked the waiter about this ever so homely item. He told me that it was for the benefit of the Brits, who like baked beans with their breakfasts.

The Carlton is an experience and, all in all, worth it.

If you intend to go to this hotel in summer , beware air conditioner in room is terrible , room temperature is 74 °F, at the lobby about 79 °F, besides several complains , I was told they could do nothing as outside was to hot !!!
I got a room (not facing the beach) for 665 Euros per night , besides that in room internet was charged 24 Euros per day
When I went to the beach in front of the hotel, I was charged 30 Euros per chair (cheapest chair first roll near the water is 45 euros)
Breakfast was very good , also not included , 34 Euros
Besides I got nothing from mini bar( 8 Euros a small bottle of water) they try to charge several things , I had to ask to remove from my check
Its a very beautiful hotel in a very good location with Locitane amenities ,exelent room service (I 've asked for a bucket of ice and it was delivered in less then 3 minutes)but overpriced , room rate includes just the basic and wifi internet at the hotel lobby

Absolutely wonderful Hotel in a wonderful setting. Service was outstanding. Took my wife for her 50th Birthday-I could not have chosen a better hotel or location. Our room on the 5th floor was very spacious with a lovely bathroom. Felt like a film star !

We had the opportunity to travel to Europe this June and stay in three different Intercontinental properties. My husband is a platinum level Priority Club member as well as Ambassador. We used points for our stay in this hotel.
The public areas of this hotel are very elegant. The restaurant is outside on a patio. There is a cocktail lounge in the lobby and often many people were around the area. The hotel seemed pretty busy during our stay.
Check in was quick and easy and we were in our very large, upgraded room in no time. This was the best room of the three in terms of size and amenities. There were three closets and two full length mirrors. I didn’t need to request extra hangers for the first time on the trip. In addition, the bath had a tub, two sinks and a bidet. There were French doors leading to a ledge with railing with a view to the Med. The room had upscale sheets and towels. Black our curtains allowed us to sleep in every morning. Flat screen TV with a few English channels.
The location right on the Croisette was very convenient to the beach, shopping and restaurants. We walked to the hotel from the train station but I would not recommend this if you have a lot of luggage. Take a cab! One night we heard music from a beach club party but all other evenings were quiet.
We used the beach club facilities twice during our stay. It was expensive, but worth it. The service was wonderful and the food was very good. In fact, all of the services we received at the Carlton were wonderful. We received excellent restaurant advice and the concierge arranged for a car one day. We were able to pick up and drop off the car right in front of the hotel. They provided great ideas for the day trip, including maps and directions.
We totally enjoyed our stay at this iconic hotel!

I stopped here in May with my partner who was celebrating his 40th birthday, we were staying with friends in the area. We stopped for 2 nights and really enjoyed our stay- the hotel has so many original features and we were really in awe at the fabulous setting. We took a standard room which was £600+ a night, it didn't have a view but the views were really in the hotel and on the streets at night when the town came alive. Our friends were stopping in the Penthouse Suite and we celebrated my partner's 40th birthday by having a party in the hotel, the staff really helped and it was a fabulous night- the suite was out of this world I was gobsmacked!! We enjoyed drinks in the hotel bar at night and also enjoyed spotting all the crazy glitterati that were staying there. Absolutley fabulous- if you ever have the opportunity go for it, what a hotel!

We only got to spend one night here, but we will be returning when we can (pun intended). We flew into Nice and took the bus into Cannes, from it was a quick walk to the hotel with our luggage. Check-in was a breeze and the receptionist helped us to get a room with a great view of both the sea and the city. The rooms are great, a little small as expected, but comfortable. The bathrooms are amazing, and the balconies, while small, are lovely. You cannot beat the location and views here and it really feels good walking into this hotel! Its walking distance to the train station for trips to Antibes, Monaco, and Nice as well. We did not get to try the restaurants here because our trip was short, but we were pleased with everything about this hotel! You cannot go wrong here at all!
