It was not until we checked in this hotel to find out that it's celebrating its 100th year anniversary this year. The hotel is in perfect condition and that's a kind of Europe hotel that modern hotels can't compete. Staffs are professional hoteliers and make one absolutely feel they're all welcome here.

Only comment is the French wine is a bit over-charged. Well after all, it's the most prestiges hotel in Cannes.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for our honeymoon trip. When we checked in, we received warm welcome and were told the hotel upgraded our room for this special occasion. They provided the room with best sea view and even prepared us flowers/fruits in the room. Fantastic experience! I surely would recommend this hotel!

We had been very lucky as this was the first week of the good weather. The hotel was lovely. I had a big room on the side of the hotel. The front would have been nicer. We drank some amazing wine and visited some memorable restaurants. We ate lunch on the beach on day which again was fabulous. The hotel does need some attention but it is very well maintained and attended. Friends had a top floor suite which had a stunning view.

Stayed here for a business convention and the hotel was quite expensive but so is everything else on LaCroisette in Cannes. The lobby, bar area, restaurant are all clean, upscale, elegant. The front desk and concierge and waitstaff are all extremely friendly and accomodating and everyone speaks English. The elevators are a bit slow.

The room itself is small, compared to U.S. hotel rooms but I was traveling alone, so it was just perfect. I had a king size bed, TV, 2 nightstands, a desk, 2 chairs and a small table. Had an ocean front view room on the first floor, directly above the outdoor restaurant. The room itself you could tell was quite old, however, the furnishings were in excellent shape although I do believe they were antiques (which falls in line with the hotel but not my style). The room was clean but the air conditioning system really needs to be updated - my room was warm the entire time I was there and I couldnt make the air cooler than 20C (about 68 degrees I think but it was NO WAY 68 degrees in my room - maybe 78).

The bathroom was clean and updated. Nice amenities including a bathrobe, slippers, lots of towels. Great water pressure in the shower.

Also, the traffic is loud on the main road so even if cool enough at night, you cant open your french doors to let in the fresh air because it's too loud to sleep.

Here's where I had issues: There is nowhere in or around the hotel to go buy any bottled water so I was left with the mini bar (10Euros a bottle of Evian) or room service (10Euros plus service fees) or the bar (10 Euros a bottle plus you have to drink it at the bar area). There is nowhere in the hotel to get a cup of coffee that you can bring back to your room so I was forced each morning to order a pot of coffee to my room (which was delicious, BTW) but with delivery and tip, this cost me about 18Euros each morning (no food). For breakfast, you can have a breakfast buffet at the hotel for 50Euros per person - NO JOKE. We had 2 drinks at the bar one night - 45Euros. TWO DRINKS. We had a meeting where we had orange juice and hot tea - 18Euros for the orange juice alone. This is just OBSCENE. Not to mention, I was there for 4 nights and the bill was about 3000EUROS.

To me, the service and quality of everything would have to be like a fantasy to pay such prices. This was nothing more than a above-average hotel with a beautiful sea view and some nostalgic history behind it. It is centrally located in Cannes and has it's own beach but seriously, not worth the prices, in my opinion.

Room Tip: Ask for sea front, high floor

If you're going to stay at the Carlton, please ensure that your room has a view on the sea, not the inside courtyard, which is full of garbage bins. For your information, garbage is collected by big garbage trucks around 06:00AM, so unless your alarm goes off before then, prepare yourself to a harsh awakening...

It does have access to a nice beach, but what would you expect for the price you're paying. I guess it is as good as you'll get in France....

Mostly , only good things to write about our experience during our stay in the Carlton. We were upgraded to the Roman Polanski suite which had 2 bedrooms , a long entrance hall and a vast living room. The only cons was the breakfast. One should expect a larger variety. The staff was very attentive and caring. Bottom line: a place to return to.
