During our trip in the south of France we spent a night in the Carlton Cannes.
A versaille style Hotel very well maintained.
We were upgraded to a room with a sea view (platinum member).
The Hotel is very well situated in Cannes and a walking distance from all major attractions.
The hotel is pricey but still in the range of this category of Hotels.

My husband and I were so excited to stay at The Intercontinental Carlton in Cannes, France this past July. Sadly, it was a huge disappointment. We spent over $600 a night on one of the worst rooms we have ever stayed in. It was outdated and depressing (though I will say it was clean). The window of our room overlooked the back alley of the hotel-- which was not attractive. The chances of having a room facing the sea are slim to none. The staff was snooty and unimpressed with everyone, offering terrible and rude service. We did encounter one great staff member-- a manager named Raphael. When we found out that the private beach was completely booked in advance and we were not going to be able to to the beach for our entire visit, we reached out to hotel management. Raphael graciously informed us that he would try to find us a chair (for a €40 per person rate!) The outside beauty of this hotel fools you into believing it is as beautiful on the inside-- sadly, it is not. We will never stay here again. It was truly a disappointment.

Room Tip: Pay €1000+ per night to get a room with a view of the sea.

We're having 5 weeks on the Riviera so lots of time to linger when we choose. After strolling the promenade in Cannes we decided to stop on the beach front terrace at the Carlton Hotel for ice cream and a cold drink. The service was the worst we've ever experienced. When we finally got the waiter to deign to take our order, the banana splits were the best in the world. amazing. fabulous homemade ice creams and for 16 Euros a piece, i guess they should be. The view of the promenade, the sea, and the beautiful people strolling was worth the delay. Well, maybe. until we tried for the best part of an hour to pay our bill; finally walking inside to the bar to pay. Our feeling was that this hotel needs new management or a new rating. It was interesting to see the menu set out in French, English, and Russian so maybe their new clientele doesn't care much about service??

5 Star-maybe from the outside and location only!!! Once you pass thru the lobby the hotel goes into free fall. The hallway carpet is worn, walls are damaged and the ceiling tile outside our suite was black. Our first room was a disaster, poor air conditioning and the strong smell of a fresh paint job probably to hide the blemishes of a tired hotel. We met with reception in the morning and were moved to what they considered a renovated room. The room was far from renovated and those shown on the hotels web-site- the bathroom was old, the carpet stainded and the wallpaper cut in numerous places-what a disappointment. To make matters worse we had practically beg to get 2 chairs on the beach, after paying 60 euro + tip. I should also mention we had maintenance up to the room twice to investigate the lack of air, they responded that the hotel was having trouble keeping up with the hot weather and full hotel-nice to know!!! We have no problem paying for first class accomodations, but when you advertise a 5 star hotel and charge for one, you should deliver. The Carlton is living on its past reputation and is in need of a serious makeover. That said, I cant fault the staff who were very helpful and sympathetic to our concerns.

truly a great five star property, the location is just perfect , the suites are very well decorated , cannot fault this hotel anywhere , yes its a bit old now and needs a good amount of renuvation which all old hotel properties do need but only for this reason i cannot rate this hotel poor as it is very grand and royal , the private beach and jetty are beautiful ,
the breakfast area sitting and quality of food is up to the mark . will surely return .
