I you are staying in Niece take a bus #200 to Cannes for 1Euro. If you are not far from the promenade, the bus stops there. Without traffic it would take approximately 1 hour. You can take a train from Nice to Cannes for $6.50Euros or even more; it depends on the train.
When you get to Cannes, make sure you plan your way back. It could be disappointing since the last bus leaves Cannes back to Nice around 8.30 p.m. It also limited amount seats on the bus, so be ready to stand up until someone gets off the bus or take a train back to Nice. However, last train leaves around 10 p.m. Could not get used to low pace. You should plan in advance, so you do not have to take a taxi and pay for almost 100Euros to get back or stay in Cannes. Shopping there is amazing (Haven for GIRLZZZ).
Beach is really good comparing to Nice rocky beach. Get up to the hills towards to Castle. You can hop on a little choo-choo train and will take you up there. Castle is just a name left from whatever was before, but the view is breathtaking from the top on old Town and Marina.
Even thou there is not much to see, but I still give them all my Tums Up. When you get down from the hill, there is a little bistro-cafe, where you can sit outside and eat a good food. It is located by the little fountain.
If you want to go to museum at the castle there is a fee.

The displays are exceptional especially those from the Pacific Islands. Make sure you have a bite before going there and bring a bottle of water with you as there is no restaurant or cafe there as it is an uphill walk. You should go up the 200 odd stairs after visiting the museum to get the beautiful views of Cannes.

This is a wonderfully eclectic museum based on a couple of private collections that were donated some 100 years ago. We found the pieces from the artic most interesting and also the collections from the Pacific islands. Don't forget to go up the tower. The views are worth the climb.

The museum is interesting and the grounds are nice. It is inexpensive and if you have been to Cannes a lot it makes for a nice change/addition. The setting of Le Suquet is really what makes it.

Visited Cannes from a cruise on a Sunday. There just happened to be a festival of flowers going on so many of the back streets in the old town were decorated with interesting and pretty designs. The walk to the castle is of course all uphill but well worth the effort. The views over the town and surrounding area are magnificent and the coutyard of the castle and the museum have ample seating and shade. Within the main courtyard was a local stall making and selling crepes and sandwiches. The museum is well set out and has exhibits from all over former French territories. The views from the tower within the museum are worth the extra 100 or so steps.
