Visited Cannes from a cruise on a Sunday. There just happened to be a festival of flowers going on so many of the back streets in the old town were decorated with interesting and pretty designs. The walk to the castle is of course all uphill but well worth the effort. The views over the town and surrounding area are magnificent and the coutyard of the castle and the museum have ample seating and shade. Within the main courtyard was a local stall making and selling crepes and sandwiches. The museum is well set out and has exhibits from all over former French territories. The views from the tower within the museum are worth the extra 100 or so steps.

Get out of the hustle and bustle of waterfront Cannes and check out this really good museum. Not only are the exhibits good but the views from the tower are awesome. After you are done check out the church next door. Also the hill side between the museum is full of great shops and unique dining.

Nicely laid out anthropology museum based on a collection of artifacts from all over the world. A little dissapointed there was not more about the castle itself and Cannes history but a least there was an amazing view :)

Perched high above Cannes, the view from the ancient castle tower is one of the best on offer here. The town and harbour have lot more character from uphere than theydoat street level. The art is worth a look too.

The "unique" collection inside the museum, which some might well call a bit "odd", is largely the collection of a Dutch nobleman assembled before 1850. That collection ranges from a fascinating and diverse group of approx 400 primitive musical instruments (magnificently displayed in a barrel-vaulted 12th Century Romanesque chapel) to tribal art (Oceania, pre-Columbian, Arctic and Himalayan) beautifully displayed. All of the displays and information are very well done. More pertinent to the area are Mediterranean antiquities and landscapes, seascapes and other impressionist art.
The buildings are reputed to reflect 11th Century origins with restorations/additions to date. The 360 degree view of Cannes from the tower (interior steps in good shape) is glorious.
