“Honeymoon”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

Stayed here for my honeymoon, lovely hotel. Friendly staff, AMAZING concierge. Great location. Hotel management sent us a bottle of champagne when we arrived, which was a very nice way to start our honeymoon :-)

Would definitely stay here again :-)

Hotel Martinez is a beautiful hotel in an ideal location. I think the negative reviews must be reacting to the non-sea view rooms. The Sea View Prestige rooms are newly renovated and the decor is absolutely gorgeous! Definitely worth the money. These rooms have amazing bathrooms-- spacious rain showers, luxurious soaking tubs and double sinks. The entry hallways have wonderful built-in closets and cabinetry. The rooms also have small Juliette balconies with spectacular views of the sea.
The staff is very friendly and attentive-- the absolute best I have encountered in my European travels. We were given free drinks in the bar while waiting for our rooms to be ready at check-in; bottles of wine were awaiting us in our rooms; nightly turn-down service provides bottled water; all the staff have been courteous and quick to provide assistance for any/all of our needs. The private beach is fabulous and worth the price. The fitness center has state of the art equipment and is open 24 hours. The hotel serves wonderful smoothies and fresh-squeezed fruit juices. Be prepared to pay a little extra for some things (room service is a little expensive and you must pay for beach chairs); in the case of Hotel Martinez, the experience is worth the additional cost.

The only negative aspects:
* wifi internet is rather slow. However, with this room class the wifi is free-- a major bonus since many hotels charge an upwards of 20 Euro a day for wifi.
* bedding/sheets are a little stiff and could be softer.

Overall, this hotel is virtually perfect as long as you spring for the sea view rooms.
I would definitely return and recommend Hotel Martinez to all travelers.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view Prestige room.

Hotel Martinez is a classical hotel in Cannes and is a symbol. The service is ok, location great however should be updated (not renovated). Booking.com is the best way to make the best rate reservation

Have stayed here twice, both times were memorable. The rooms are large and well equipped. The bar downstairs is classy and having apéritif there helps set the tone for dinner. Of course after dinner night cap is also a must...

Room Tip: Try to book a room at the front, the rooms on the side facing the night club are noisy.

I booked at the Martinez for my birthday celebration. We were given a room facing the train tracks, room decoration was so cheap and ugly, bathroom had stain marks and worst of all noisy!
We went to the beach and to my surprise hotel guest have to pay for a beach lounger .I would have thought that it would be free being part of the hotel facility. We made a mistake of having lunch at the Zplage, another horrific experience ! Chicken tacos 29 euros,unedible,8 euros for a coffee,54 euros for a burger,1 lemonade 16 euros ! shame shame shame. This place is a terrible ! I thought that being one of the great palaces in cannes where all the movie stars stay it would have something to offer, nothing is grand about it except the bill!Go else where there are far better hotels,so many new boutique hotels at half the price. It was a sad experience especially since I am suppose to be celebrating a milestone in my life!

Room Tip: unless staying in the presidential suite forget it.Stay at hotels not on the croissette.

We used Cannes as our point of travel for the Riviera--first time here. Cannes is nice--a bit like South Beach in Miami, but a bit older crowd.

The Hotel Martinez is quite nice however it is in real need of work. The lobby is well kept. Our room (#622) was great with one of the most amazing views of any locale we have visited. The room has many wonderful amenities (great storage space, two sinks in bathroom, good A/C with easy controls that work.) The staff at the hotel--in all places--really could not have been nicer. The Concierge (I think one of them was named Fabrizio) was wonderfully helpful and pleasant. WE did not encounter one single person who was rude, pretentious or unwilling to help--other reviewers have had that experience apparently. Check-in was a breeze and the chap at the desk who checked us in, gave us a walking tour of the hotel and walked us to our room--a very nice touch. We did NOT eat in hotel (other than the breakfast which was included in our fee) and this was very good. The buffet does seem to be less well-stocked as the 1030 hour approaches so getting there earlier is probably a good idea.

The bellmen were quite nice. They retrieved our car quickly and hailed cabs for us as needed. One suggestion--perhaps being greeted by name after staying there for a few days would be a nice touch.

The housekeeping was one of the sore points. They were pleasant and always available; unfortunately, their work did not rise to the level of the hotel. In fact, much of the Hotel Martinez is worn and it shows. Many of the carpetings are stained, their is paint peeling from some walls.

NB If you are going to come here, you should consider making certain that you get a seaview. Facing the back is not only ugly , it also prevents you from seeing the best part of the hotel which is the view of the sea! Worse than all that is if you face the back, you see all of the peeling paint on the outside of the building and get to see the work area where there is, I believe, garbage. The price might be prohibitive at times but I would recommend a different hotel if you are going to be facing the inner part of the building.

The housekeeping staff did not vacuum the room daily and the floors were minimally dirty--not terrible as my wife and I do not make a huge mess but still...

The spa services, in my opinion, were outrageously priced! Almost $300 (US) for a massage and $150 (US) for a blow-out seemed silly. We have been to many other places that are at teh same level as Hotel Martinez and have not often seen prices like that.

The beach is lovely. Yes, as others have opined, the issue with paying for chairs/beds is annoying when you are paying so much for a room. However, that is the way it is and you are warned! You can take a towel and walk a few meters down to the public beach for free--your choice for sure. However, getting a bed on the deck or a chaise on the beach is relaxing and comfortable. The staff was quite nice there also and very service oriented. (We were there in September so I imagine it is a bit more tame than the summer months.) The cost (in Sept) is 1/2 of that in the summer---36 Euros for a bed on the dock and 16 Euros for a chaise on the beach. You can check the prices before you go and decide if you are OK spending the money.

The food at the beach was pretty outrageously priced as well. A hamburger was 54 Euros...a Pina Colada was 21 Euros! Drink wine--it is <10 Euros per glass!!

The concierge did a great job at setting up some dinners at different types of places in different parts of town.

Overall, a very nice hotel that, if some improvements are made, will be wonderful.

Room Tip: MUST not get a room in the back!! Do your best to get a seaview room in the front of the hotel

Unless you get a very good deal, avoid this hotel !
I have booked a room to attend a convention. My room was at the back of the hotel overlooking the train tracks and i could hear the noise.
The carpet of the rooms was very old and not clean! Tv was old. This hotel has not been renovated in long time.
Even the location is not the best, its far from shopping, restaurants, night life.
The worth thing also was the welcome amenity : 3 oranges on a simple plate.

Regarding the rooms, a program in order to refurbish the rooms is going on, starting with the Prestige Sea View rooms. Other categories will be done accordingly.

As for the shopping, restaurants and night clubs we would have to disagree since the main shopping street called Rue d'Antibes is located at 400 meters from the hotel which equals a 5 minutes walk. All the restaurant and nights clubs are located in Cannes area or on the Croisette, where the hotel is, reachable by car within 5 minutes maximum.

Please be assured that the comfort and the satisfaction of our guests are our first preoccupation. Thank you for your understanding and for helping us to improve the quality of our service.
