A visit to Cannes would not be complete without a walk in the Suquet area - the old town - where you will find nice restaurants and quaint little shops. Climb all the way to the top of the hill for some beautiful panoramic views of the city. Worth-visiting!

We loved the vibe of this old part of Cannes and enjoyed the restaurants and bars. A walk up to the top yields a great view of the Croisette from the ramparts of the old fortress/monastery. The lit up church face was beautiful at night. Also, a great place to see through windows and into the lives of locals eating their dinners.

We went to Nice in Christmas holidays and struggled for time to cover our wish list. However Cannes was in the top priority of our wish list, not only for nice view of sea but mainly for witnessing the place for film festivals.
We developed the following itinerary for our 7 day Nice trip and kept Cannes on 3rd day schedule.
Day 1- Went to Eze Village by bus 112. It took 5 hrs, 20 mins each way for journey, 3 hrs at Eze, remaining is waiting time for bus
Day 2-Due to rain, we restricted to local area. We enjoyed old Nice, Flower market, Cathedral Sainte Reparate. In the afternoon we went to Monastery(Monastere de cimiez)/Museum Matisse/Archaeological Museum by taking Bus 17.
Day 3- Took Bus 200 for Cannes for the whole day. Journey time 1.5hrs each way
Day 4-Took Train des Marveilles at 9-13am for Tende and came back at evening. Journey time each way is 2-2.5 hrs.
Day 5-Took Bus 500 for Grasse. It took 1.5hrs to reach. We visited International museum for Perfumery and Franard Museum as we were very much interested in perfume making and purchased a lot.
After finishing Grasse trip we took bus 500 again but this time we got down in midway at 8th May stop and took Bus 400 for Vence. It took 30 mins to reach St Paul de Vence and enjoyed the amazing vence!(please see my detail review under things to do)
Day 6- We went to Monaco for the full day. Bus journey is 45 mins each way. Fantastic day spent!
Day 7- Local nice trip including Colline du Chateau and went back to London in the afternoon.

We walked to the Albert 1er, walking distance from our hotel and near the Rual beach to catch Bus 200 to Cannes.
Day before we went to railway station and found that Cannes return from Nice is costing much more(about 15 euro per head) and decided to go by bus which is quite cheap and flat fare of 1.5 euro.
There are plenty of buses (at least 2-4 buses in an hour in average) however; it is wise to take a bus time table from Tourist office or hotel to know the exact timing. Please take special attention to the 3 categories in timetable -
Lundi aVendredi means Monday to Friday
Samedi means- Saturday
Dimanche et jours feries means Sunday and Bank Holidays
It took 90 mins by Bus 200 to reach Cannes. We got down at the last stoppage “Gare Routiere” which is very closed to “Palais Des Festivals”. After completing the sea side, we walked back to the Port area again and came near to Melting Pot restaurant for the stairs for going up.
This stair was about 80 ft-100ft up and we reached in a circular road named Rue Louis Perrissol.
The whole area is completely different from the new Cannes- it is stoned road, narrow compared to the road at sea level and we reached the old city.
There is a nice platform at 15-20ft level accessible by stairs. Nice view of 2 snow covered mountain was visible. When we got down from this elevated platform, we found a gorgeous Church, called as Notre Dame Church with a small complex leading towards Musee Dela Castra. The Museum was closed due to Christmas period or so. We walked further on the circular road and found another narrow stairs with signs as “To Main City Centre”. We got down using that lovely stairs and reached main city again.
Overall it took 2 hrs to see that area.

Not much too say, really not that quaint or large, pretty boring in fact. A very few of the restaurants are good.
