The local that referred us to this place lives nearby and suggested lunch. After spending 2 hours walking around the market place, we did not have to walk too far (around the corner) to have lunch at 10 Rue Dr Pierre Gazagnaire.

Plate Dejour, Ja why pay more than 19 euro's for a true lunch time restaurant experience in France. Try and do that in Sydney?! No hope

Entree salad nitoise had so much colour and variety in it we needed sun glasses, the main was fish fillet (fish of the day) and enough vegetable puree and pome frites to fill the plate.

Desert was again full of colour and flavours that would put a hatted restaurant to shame.

It was the bottle of Rose we selected that nearly doubled the cost, but that was a personal choice.

Do yourself a favour, after spending some time at the markets, have an early lunch at thsi Bistro, the food and service are excellent!

Having read a review in the Daily Telegraph we decided to give Bistrot Gourmand a try. Finding excellent food at sensible prices is always difficult on the Cote D'Azur but this establishment has managed to achieve this. Three of us had the mid-priced set lunch menu for 19 euros a head and all had different dishes. We couldn't find fault with any of them. We also had a delicious house rose, again very reasonably priced. Get there early though, as the specials do run out! Only negative was that the service was a bit slow as they were busy.

We were strolling around Cannes, looking for a light lunch when we came across this place by the market.
The weather was poor, so there was only 1 outside table occupied, but we could see the room was busy, and there was a Trip Advisor label on the door, so went in.
The owner waits on the tables single handed, is quick and efficient.
We chose the Menu d'Affair (business menu) which was perfect - a starter of artichoke with a little oil and partisan shavings, followed by pigeon with a mash topping and a small dressed mesclan salad. I think this was 17 euros each, though for 2 euros more another menu gave a small choice of starters, mains and also deserts.
The food, service and ambience were excellent. Although service was, by necessity brisk, we saw the owner spending time with people who needed help with the Menu.
We are looking forward to a return visit!

We dropped in at lunchtime to make a reservation for dinner. I spoke French although i was clearly English. Dinner was excellent: very slick, good food and efficient service. The maitre d' worked front of house alone and so occasionally he was busy elsewhere but the food was superbly presented and he spoke French to us all evening because that was our preference - which was a pleasure. The goats cheese salad had a twist involving samosa like parcels which were average, not crisp enough. The rack of lamb was excellent, as was the creme brulee. The menu du jour was €37 and the bill for two came to €110 including a pichot or chablis and a bottle of cotes du rhone. Good value; well wrth a visit.

Dear Stevescnt,
Thanks for your review, I am always prude to make appreciate food for foreigners even if we are a local restaurant. It’s true that sometimes one more waiter will be better, for example when every customer comes at the same time. I do really apologize for the non crispy goat cheese, it’s a mess and my fault for sure. I will do better next time, promise.
The real price of our Gourmet menu is 29€ except for New Year’s or Valentine’s.
I wish that you will visit us again for your trip.

Regards,
Guillaume

Luckily we reserved a table, we arrived to find one other table occupied but the place was soon at capacity. We choose from go the Gourmand menu as it was Easter (it was either that or a la carte), the waiter took time to explain every dish, in English! Which was a massive help although we still managed a mistake, my son ordered cappuccino and poached egg and it was only when it arrived it dawned on us that it had milk and he is badly allergic to it - it was totally our fault but the waiter changed the dish with no problem and checked our other choices. The other dishes were faultless, the crime brûlée with a grand marnier shot inspired. We will return in a heartbeat. Rose wine at 19 euros a bottle stunning value.
