Tucked away around the corner from the main street at the top of the old town in Cannes you will find the Le Salon des Independants. It is now firmly on our list of restaurants to visit and is a great night out.

There is one fixed price menu of approx. 49€ which includes a welcome glass of champagne, a bottle of wine between two and a plate of charcuterie plus a house terrine with salad and lots of fresh bread. There is then a plate of ravioli with a truffle sauce served with a shot of vodka before the main course...a choice of fish, lamb, ribs etc. served with vegetables and duchesse potatoes (which has a great wack of garlic :)). There is also a choice of desserts including a wonderful panacotta. The food is well presented, tasty and plentiful and every single person in our group were very impressed.

The owners Mario and Andrea are great fun and great singers..and Mario is even a fair Elvis impersonator :) and especially impressive that they are able to sing in at least 4 languages (at least on the nights we were there!). Last November (2013) a large group of us were there celebrating a family christening and with a mix of Irish, French, Scottish and Spanish it was always going to be a great night. The nearby tables soon joined in and we soon had German, more Irish and even a Swiss couple all singing away...it was just a brilliant, unforgettable night.

So good was that night that we went back with other friends a couple of nights later for a repeat performance. We were back in June 2014 and everything was still just as perfect...don't miss this restaurant for a great night and ..join in the singing ! (TIP: Make a reservation to be guaranteed a table particularly at weekends or during festivals).

Looking forward to a return visit in October.

I don't know about you, but we are on the lookout for a certain type of place when we are on holiday. Especially in France. We don't want to walk into a restaurant where waiters are wearing ties. Nor do we want to go into a tourist trap and eat bad food served by the owners who know full well they won't ever see you again. We want something informal, bistro-type, with good food, friendly service and a budget that won't break the bank.

Le Salon des Independants fit this description perfectly.

They have a fixed 49 Euro menu which includes a bottle of wine for two people dining (bear in mind that's all they have. No a la carte). And it's good wine. Granted, not the kind of wine you would write down the name of and order online. But the kind you will enjoy.

We were a group of 4, so got to taste a range of dishes. They were all good, with pork ribs and lamb shank getting the highest marks from us. I especially liked profiterole pancakes with ice cream for the desert.

Very good, friendly but not overbearing service. Unfortunately the resident musician didn't make it on the night as his car broke down. I am sure with live music (9-11 each evening) it's even better. Enjoy!

I am affraid to say that Trip advisor discredit itself by putting this "restaurant" at the top of cannes's one....
dishes are directly provided by Metro, a local professional market... the rosated and steamed Quail are no more than vacuo microwaved meal with a nasty too salted sauce t, even the bones were so much cooked than they melted under fingers either in mouth (which is quite dangerous), everything, from the duck tu the lamb "souris" is as despictable as the quails.

This estabilshemetn is the shame of cannes Restauration and should not be at this position...

more :
"champagne you can see in the web site is only Cremant ( a much cheaper wine from bourgogne"
bad cheap vodka is in place of the trou normand wich is normaly made with calvados,
Wine is served in open bottle and probably came from cubitainer and is bottled on demand :/

and address? absolutely ! to forget !

An unstuffy and interestingly decorated restaurant with a great set menu, reasonably priced. The service was highly professional but also relaxed and friendly. The patron's musical interlude topped off a great evening! Highly recommended.
