Our arrival was a little perturbing as there had been a mixup and our reservation was not held. However we stood our ground and the restaurant did their best and we were accommodated. At first we were in the entrance blocking the coats and some rest room access but all was solved by replacing a table for two with one for four and we were swiftly transferred. Then our celebration meal truly began and it was excellent. Instead of the fancy bits and pieces so beloved of some New Year's restaurants we had a proper meal with good choices and everyone was pleased. The amuse bouche did more than just amuse and was a delightful wee pot of creamy risotto with mushroom. Starter choices were between foie gras with trimmings or scallops in a lush green sauce (leeks with eschalot maybe). I enjoyed the latter. Mains were either filet de boeuf or sea bass served with legumes oublies (parsnips (which are making a comeback in France, potato and turnips). Sweets were Grand Marnier Souffle or chocolat mousse with an orange pyramid. The service was very good and just the right amount of levity for the season. Certainly this visit suggests a return sometime soon. I do think if a restaurant measures up on such an occasion with a very full house it is to be recommended. Merci L'Affable you are fabled.
