You can walk for hours in Cannes looking for somewhere for a light bite or significant meal and remain dissapointed. Do your self a favour and just head for The Up Side Down Cafe at the conference centre end of La Croisette.
Unless you're looking for some kind of 5 star dining a la Carlton or Martinez (and those are OK without being sensation - OR COOL) the Upside Down is spot on and I always make an effort to have lunch there whenever I am in Cannes.
The Veal Milanaise is lovely - as is the Upside Down Salad - a kind of chicken salad with peanut dressing. The restaurant benefits from the most amazing array of irrigation pipes which spray cooling fine sprays of water every minute or so. SO welcome when Cannes is hot.
A great place to stop once you have walked the length of Rue Antibes (cut through to the Upside Down through the Haagen Daz outlet on Rue Antibes or walk around the corner to the front on La Croisette by the fountain). The address is Place de Gaulle.
Smashing place and the kids love it.
