We had been to the Mechant Loup several years ago and wanted to go back again. We managed this with friends in September this year but the restaurant had changed its name. We decided to eat there anyway and were delighted thsat we did.
The only downside was that when we first sat down we were given the A La Carte menu which is considerably more expensive that the set menu/menu complet. Once that arrived we ordered aperatives and settled down to chose. We unashamedly went native ordering frogs legs, snails, salad du gessiers and pate de fois gras. These were followed by 2 steaks, cote d'agneau and I had the chicken. Our deserts were fabulous as only the French can manage and I ordered cheese as an additional course. We all had coffee and the men had Marc. We had also had wine and aperatives. At Euros 160 this was the most expensive meal we had but would willingly have eaten there every night.
This restaurant is on the very steep road leading from the front up to the old town and the terrace is tiny. So please either get there early or book a table stating outside dining. You get very friendly with other diners and the passing public could pinch a frite if they wanted too. This dining experience is worth every Euro and is an absolute must for anybody visiting Cannes.
