“One of the best in the South of France”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

I have been coming to the region and Cannes in particular for a number of years, especially around conferences held at the Palais. When you eat in some of the nearby restaurants, the quality can be variable and the service likewise. None of this applies to this fabulous restaurant run by Philipe the Patron Magnifique. I have been lucky to go with friends and Clients and built up a strong rapport with Philipe. He has bonhomie, professionalism, and an energy and passion for his work including on ambience, food, wine and service. His team are consistently loyal and tireless in their work and have been for many years. They get busy, yes very very busy, although they always perform politely provided people are fair and polite with them. It can get packed so you do marvel at their prowess and skill when they manoeuvre around. I ask for the wine bottles to be place, uncorked nearby or on the table with plenty of still water and badois. That way we can help ourselves when the service team are under pressure which does happen around the conference. The food is fresh and the fish exquisite - the Dover sole is my favourite. Beware the fritto misto as it is delicious but very rich and too much of a good thing ......

The wine list is extensive and caters for all tastes - as does the champagne - his cheaper house champagne circa €70 is from the House of Laurent Perrier so try this one - plus a special drink from the region is champagne in a tumbler, with ice and then adding the liqueur "Violette", made from violets in the region. The colour matches the purple decor and the drink gives a marvellous scent and softer texture to the dry champagne and cuts down the bubbles - it is very quaffable so again be mindful of the after effects. So whilst it will not be the cheapest place, it has been for me consistently excellent on atmosphere, friendliness, service and food. If you want views of the harbour and want to be romantic, with a sense of space, eat upstairs. Downstairs is good to watch the world go by, but is best for smaller groups or you can get hemmed in.

So for those in Cannes who can, visit GG at the end of the Croisette and after eating take a languid stroke up the the Castle behind or mooch through the old time. Plenty of cobbles and steep so choose comfortable footwear and no rushing please......

“one of bests restaurants in Cannes”
Reviewed March 12, 2013

I enjoyed the meal, wines and the service of this restaurant hight level. Many people prefer to stay outside on the terrace but the room on 1st floor has a nice view and is quiet

“Nice find in Cannes!”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

had dinner here with three others. NIce restaurant and the food was good. Down by the marina so after dinner nice place to walk around and see all the yachts. The food was really good,. I had a salad and the Turbot, don't get that fish in the states much so it was nice to see on menu. No complaints at all. As with all things in Cannes, it is expensive and expect to stay for at least 3 hours for dinner

“I could've rolled my crème brûlée down the hill”
Reviewed January 21, 2013

We went here early on a Sunday night as it was recommended to us by the concierge at the JW Marriott as one of few that were open on a Sunday. When we got there (at 8pm) it was empty, not a good sign to start. It warmed up slowly throughout the evening, but only with people from our company also staying at the hotel. The staff were very attentive, and my mussels and duck were deliciously cooked. I chose from the €37 3 course menu, which I thought was reasonable. However, when my (usually) favourite crème brûlée dessert arrived and I cut into it it was very overcooked, like rubber, and the whole thing moved around in one entity in the bowl. I'm sure it's meant to have a creamy consistency. I didn't like to say anything since it was the first crème brûlée I'd had in the south of France and I figured since they'd done such a good job with the mussels and the duck that they must know what they're doing. I still don't know the truth about Southern French crème brûlée. If anyone else does, please message me and let me know!
