Astoux and Brun--for all its pluses and minuses--is worth its storied standing among Cannes restaurants. On the suspect side: Yes, it's pitched right for the festival and convention crowds in a prime location. The convention pricing, fluorescent lighting, and the impressively reluctant service do little to draw in the doubtful. But these drawbacks do not challenge the fact that this is among the best seafood available on the Côte d'Azur, one of the many reasons why the place fills during the off season with Cannes families and the pre-party crowd. Go once to order the Assortiment Royal, their high-end platter of excellent crab, oysters, langoustines, and more. Go a second time to try their more modest regular offerings such as fish soup. You don't need to break the bank to visit a place like this, and the Cassis wines are excellent.
