We were dismayed to find it was closed for renovations, as we were dying to see it.

However, we were fortunate enough to see it from our villa directly across the valley, and took many photos with a long range lens.

We'll definitely visit next time we're back, as the grounds and home look wonderful and worth visiting (especially with all that history)

Renoir's house is closed this summer for renovations but you can still see a small collections of his paintings in the art gallery in the Chateau at Haut Cagnes. As usual the Chateau is closed from 12.00 to 2.00pm. You can go up to Haut Cagnes on a free shuttle bus which leaves every 10 minutes or so from the centre of the town. If you want to have lunch whilst you are in the old town we recommend Jimmys, look out for their daily specials.

Go there when you want to enjoy some peace and quiet. The house is restored and you can feel Renoir and his family´s spirit there. The bedrooms, the living rooms and even the artist´s very personal studio with his wheelchair are restored. You will see his exceptional views and all his inspirations. When you are finished with his house, his garden is as spectacular in its tranquility. Just wander around, sit down and feel the vibrant air. In summer there are often arranged concerts in the garden, even symphony orchestras and opera performances. Buy a ticket, it is an experience of a lifetime.
