“Still as fantastic!”
Reviewed August 29, 2011

Another trip to Normandy and another stay at La Fosse (one night only this time). Still as lovely and a must if you are in this part of the world. Fantastic location, views over rolling hills, sheep in the paddock. La Fosse is most certainly a five star B & B (and we stayed in a more expensive monoir nearer Cherbourg the following 2 nights - not half as nice!). Couldn't recommend more highly. The Heads have thought of everything. Really pretty bedrooms and a lovely sitting room area and kitchenette with tea/coffee/biscuits etc and even some of Mrs Head's home made cake provided.

If you are looking for the most wonderful 'Homes & Gardens' experience in a beautiful part of Normandy then we couldn't recommend La Fosse bed & breakfast, Perriers-en-Beauficel, Sourdeval in Normandy more highly! My husband, myself and our 13 year old stayed there for a couple of nights in June and didn't want to leave. The old stone farm house has been lovingly restored by an English couple, Carole & Patrick Head, who apparently spotted the property themselves while on holiday a few years ago.

It is situated in the most glorious spot, overlooking the greenest of rolling countryside, narrow lanes with high hedges and a back garden, terraced in parts, gently sloping down to a little pond and gorgeous minerature brown sheep (v friendly!). The garden nearest the kitchen door looks like a typical English country garden, with lilacs, exuberant tea roses and clematis in abundance.

The guest bedrooms are on the 1st floor of the house, as is the guest sitting room and a well thought out little kitchen area with a fridge and kettle etc. The Heads were the most charming hosts and Carole's groaning breakfast table, with home made granola, fresh juice, lashings of coffee, fresh croissants, home made jams/marmaldes etc was exceptional. The kitchen itself deserves a mention as it has the most amazing chimney breast as part of the design and a central, circular work space that could take pride of place in any international design museum.

My husband and I were given the Orchid room with the biggest most comfortable bed ever. Crisp white sheets, luxurious quilts and plump pillows, solid window shutters - the best nights sleep ever! The ensuite, complete with dazzling white towels etc was perfect. We also sat and had an early morning cup of tea on the balcony overlooking the garden and valley (fantastic little suntrap).

Our thirteen year old was lucky enough to have the Rose bedroom all to herself and this too was like something you would normally find in a five star hotel.

The Heads recommended a local restaurant, about a ten minute drive through the village, for our evening meal and we have been raving about the food ever since we got back. The Auberge du Moulin (think that was the name) had a mouth watering menu and puddings that are the stuff of dreams - try the vanilla/chocolate/coffee creme brulle!
Our only regret is that we didn't stay long enough to experience one of the Head's dinners (if they are anything like the breakfasts it will be an unforgettable meal).

So, if you are on your way down to the south of France (La Fosse is about 1 and a half hours from Caen) or wanting to spend sometime in a lovely part of the Normandy countryside (Mont St Michelle is about an hour away) we think you'll love this place!

This is my first review on Trip Advisor but I thought the Heads were so nice and La Fosse so special it was worth sharing!
