We discovered Sunhat and Camp Eden 4 years ago after having previously stayed at Camp de Pylone nearby. What a contrast! Eden is quiet, well kept, very green and everyone, be they owners, other holiday makers and staff are so very friendly and helpful. We now return twice a year to stay with Sunhat and look upon the site as our piece of heaven in France!

The site is set back from the coast road, 5-10 minute drive in a quiet residential area and Antibes is an easy 15 minute drive. It is a very magical place, with great walks along the old battlements and marina. In the old town there is a wonderfull covered market open six days a week selling local fresh produce. The spice stall is the best and largest we have ever seen.
Likewise the large Carrefour hypemarket, is again about a 10 minute drive inland from the site, near the Autoroute junction and has everything you could possibly require plus cheap fuel. You can even use your English credit card at the automatic fuel pumps and they are very easy to use.
There is a good restaurant on site owned and run by a Frenchman Frankie and his English wife Beckie. They are both charming and are bi-lingual. Meals are good value for money, especially the plat du jour which changes daily.

Liz and Jeff, the owners of Sunhat, live on site during the season, and treat you as more than just customers. The vans are a few years old, but are very well maintained, and in better condition than newer vans owned by some of the big operators we have stayed with elsewhere. Liz & Jeff are on hand, approachable and will recitify any problem very quickly. The vans are well equipped, including microwave, DVD player and all the usual kitchen equipment one would expect. Each van has its own patio, with chairs, table, parasol and sunloungers with parking next to your van. The vans are not huge, however they are more than adequate for a couple or family with children. After all you will not be spending your holiday in the van, but outside in the fresh air and sunshine. We think they offer excellent value for money. That is why we return twice a year!

Camping Eden is an excellent location. It is within walking distance of the coast and there are many interesting towns and medieval villages close by. We tend to visit out of high season and have found it to be a quiet site and have enjoyed the beautiful pool. On almost every occassion we have beautiful weather throughout! We have visited it many times now with Sunhat France and find their mobile homes clean and comfortable and the representatives, Liz and Jeff , friendly and extremely helpful.
When our children were younger we all enjoyed family holidays here and now that our children are grown up, we are still coming back! It is excellent value for money in a beautiful part of France.

I travelled to camp l'eden with my husband, three children, brother and sister-in-law and their two children. We each booked a two bed caravan with sun hat holidays.

On arrival at the camp I was very happy. The camp looked well maintained, the ptiches were well spaced and there was lots of bushes and flowers. We were shown to our pitches by Liz from sun hat holidays. She guided us to the back of the camp site and my heart began to sink. In stead of a private pitch we were shown to a small strip which lookd like tinkers alley. The caravan had a very small patio which led directly on to the road. Facing directly on to us- almost within touching distance, were rows of tents.

This caused major problems throughout the holiday. We had no privacy, we were asked to shush if we sat outside in the evening. The same people woke us up at 7.00 am to a dawn chorus of screaming children. We had people in Speedos, playing badmington along side our dinner table, while we ate! We had small children peeing on our gas bottle. We were extremely uncomfortable and stressed.

We complained and were told, by Liz, that she didn't have any other vans to move us to. She does have other, spacious pitches, but told us these were full. We pointed out that she had not told us we would beside rows of tents but this seemed to make no impression on her.

The restaurant on the site was fairly expensive and the food was not great. The whole resort and area, in general, is very very expensive- basic living costs, food and drink, everything is expensive. This might be fine, if you are getting good value for money but, you don't! The meals are poor, the bills are often wrong. We were over-charged on a daily basis- we know staff need to make a living but I would rather leave a good tip for good service, rather than have someone steal from me.

The caravans themselves are tired. A typical day began with a cold and mouldy shower, the floors were marked and the beds didn't look clean.

I feel in need of a holiday and would urge you not to book with sun hat. The camp site is nice but you need to make sure you are not in the row beside all the tents as this will ruin your holiday. Personally, I think you might be better off going to another region in France or staying at home.

sunhatfrance, Owner SunhatFrance at Camping Eden, responded to this reviewResponded September 23, 2009

I felt I should write in response to this review, although sorry that these 2 families didn't enjoy their holiday at Camping Eden, I would like to point out that we do our very best to cater to the individual needs of our clients and if they were unhappy with the position of the vans would have happily moved them if we'd had alternative accommodation at the time.
As we advertise as a Campsite, is it unreasonable to find tents here, especially in high season ?
They apparantently had conflict with their French neighbours, complaints were made to the Campsite owner on more than 1 occasion, as these 2 families were sitting outdoors drinking well into the early hours of the morning.
On their departure the interior of the vans were left in a disgraceful condition, we also had to collect all their wine and beer bottles which had been thrown under the vans during their holiday, along with cigarette butts, sweet wrappers, food etc. we also found rubbish thrown out of the bathroom window from 1 van.
Regarding the condition of our Mobile Homes, they are presented clean for each arrival, including clean mattress covers on the beds, we do ask that guests either hire bed linen from us or bring their own, these families chose to sleep directly on the mattress covers so by the end of a 2 week stay in August, you can imagine !!
Luckily we have many loyal customers who return to visit us every year, please take the time to read our other reviews which give a much more accurate picture of Camping Eden and SunHatFrance.

Just returned from a week with husband and 2 children 9 & 11. What a super week we had. Weather superb, Mobile home lovely, restaurant meals brilliant for 9.50 E kids menu 6.50E. Pool clean and well maintained, a few poolside rules but all in the welfare and safety of the users. Easy access to local bus for Biot village and Antibes 1E a trip and if returned in 3hrs the ticket still valid. A bargain. The train about 20 min walk away fantastic coastal trip to Monaco 35-40 mins a must. Antibes closest sandy bay lovely for a swim. Waterpark 20 mins walk and Antibesland fantastic for the kids. Liz & Jeff Bishop (Sunhatfrance.com) excellent service...airport pick up 20 min drive 35E. Can't beat the hassle free transfer with the kids in that heat. They were always helpful and close by for advise. A pleasure to book with and a friendly face to greet us. Found them on Ownersdirect.com but Sunhatfrance have own website. They have several mobile homes to let with all you need for a comfortable stay. Can't wait to return.

I found Sun Hat when looking at www.holiday-lettings.co.uk. Sun Hat is run by an English couple, who own 5 or 6 caravans on the Camping L'Eden campsite in Biot, France.

The caravans were well-equipped and clean. There was a double room, a twin room and sofa beds. I would recommend them for a couple who have 2 children but 4 adults would find it a squeeze as the twin room is quite small with very little storage. The kitchen was very well equipped indeed, with all utensils you would need, a gas hob, oven, grill, kettle and microwave. The bathroom has a sink, 2 cupboards, shower and flush toilet which are connected to the main water supply (so no need to keep changing water barrels etc!) The living room had an l-shaped sofa which could be used as a bed for small children, a dining table with 2 folding chairs and a TV with a DVD player (only DVDs can be watched on the TV as it does not have an aerial, but we found we did not try to watch the TV anyway as we were always out and about!). Outside the caravan we had a parking space and a concrete patio which had a table and 4 chairs and parasol to shade from the blistering 86 degree september heat! There were also some clothes airers for drying your washing/swimming costumes.

Liz and her husband who run sun hat actually stay in their own caravan on-site and were available any time we had questions. They also hire out fans (by the week) and BBQs (per night) at an extra cost. The BBQs came equipped with charcoal, fire lighters and tongs which was great.

Camping L'Eden is a very lovely site and is apparently much quieter than its sister site, Pylon. It has a small bar/shop at the entrance, with a childrens play area. The bar does really nice food - nothing fancy but on the menu but what is on there is cooked to perfection. There is a very decent-sized outdoor swimming pool which we loved, and a small gym (which we never used!) There are also toilet and shower facilities for those camping in tents at the site, and laundry facilities also.

Biot nearby is a lovely village and we definitely recommend visiting it. It is a mile or so by foot but is up a very steep hill. It can also be accessed at the top of the village by car. Also nearby is Biot Verrerie (glass-blowing factory) and Marineland/Aquasplash and some other theme parks are only 1 mile down the road.

We would definitely stay there again!
