Set on a gorgeous property, this beautiful and informative museum is a must see. We knew a little bit about Leger when we decided to go but left with consider insight into Leger's art and his theories. The transition from his early work to that final work was exquisitely presented and enhanced by the audio guide which discussed and set each piece in his development of his artist theories and goals. Moreover, the drive from Valluris through the Sophia-Antipolis high tech park was beautiful.

The Fernand-Leger museum is an altar to Modernism. In an area populated with small modernist museums including the Foundation Maeght in St Paul de Vence, the Matisse Chapel in Vence, the Jean-Cocteau museum in Menton this is one of my favorites. Set in the rolling hills of Biot the architecture of this imposing building catches you by surprise. Monumental Leger sculptures clad this 1950’s building giving a sense of the works housed inside. It is certainly a must see on the South of France modernist trail.

This the hand of Leger in this magnificent building. Murals and sculpture frame this museum and make it a piece of art. There is ample parking in this museum, which is just outside of Biot. The design inside is simple-- first floor exhibition and the second permanent collection, but the colors and range of Leger's art full. I did some homework on Leger before touring and I am glad I did and have a much greater appreciation of his talent. Perhaps it was the day of the week, but it was great to visit a museum where one can enjoy the art without a herd of other tourists.

Fernand Leger's legacy is beautifully displayed in this spacious, well lit facility. He destroyed most of his early Impressionist works. Those that remain reveal an artist who was able to develop a unique style reflecting the world evolving around him. There is a broad spectrum of the painting style for which he is remembered. Large mosaics decorate the outside walls. If you find yourself in the area you should not miss this museum.
