Certificate of Excellence

We had a fantastic time at Hotel Carlton and spent a full week there in July. The staff is very professional and helpful, everybody speaks English and after a few days we almost felt like in a second home!

Our room had a great view on the pool, was very clean and comfortable but we visited one of the small rooms in the back which should definitely be avoided (very small, basic shower). Breakfast is excellent and offers a wide selection of food where everything is very fresh.

The hotel is located in a hidden street but really close from all the shops, restaurants and only 5 minutes walk to the beach.

The perfect relaxing holiday getaway for a very reasonable price! Would definitely go back!

Room Tip: Grab a room on the 3rd floor with pool view!

This is a little gem on the Riviera. When we checked in-it felt like we had slipped our feet into a comfy pair of slippers. So look elsewhere if you want a bit of bling! You will find a quiet, relaxed atmosphere that has the buzz of the south of France on its door step. Transport links are so conveniently close-by that we didn't bother hiring a car but you will need to take a taxi if going out late due to services finishing surprisingly early in the evening. It is just an hour by train and bus from Nice airport. The hotel is understandably popular with English people-particularly older couples. I'm not in that category but it didn't stop me enjoying the peaceful surroundings and 'vintage' French style decor. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The large pool for the size of hotel is a real plus and we enjoyed the delicious lunches which were served to our sun lounger.

The Quality Hotel Carlton is a lot like the town of Beaulieu: a friendly, quiet, affordable option on the Riviera -- if a bit small and unglamorous. The hotel is a short walk down residential streets from the beach, center of Beaulieu, and train station serving Nice (10 mins away) and most of the towns along the coast. This makes it an excellent base of operations for exploring Beaulieu and the rest of the region. The standard room is small, but normal for its price range in France. The staff was very friendly and the hotel had a convivial feel. Breakfast is standard continental fare, but eating outside in the lovely terrace garden is a treat. Overall, a good budget option in an otherwise overpriced region.

Having a room facing the parking is usually not a problem. However when this room is on the ground floor and has a motorcycle parking directly in front of the window then it's a different story. It would be nice to mention such a detail when booking.

The hotel claims to have a free Wi-Fi service available. Unfortunately the quality of the connection is extremely low. First of all, the signal strength in the room is really low, and one has to sit close to the door to connect at all. But that's not all, even if one manages to join their wireless network it is not equivalent with having a stable Internet connection.

Bed was extremely hard and it was difficult to sleep. We had an extra pillow but it was snatched by housekeeping after the second cleaning. We had to ask for one at the reception and the lady could not help us because "she was alone and could not leave the reception". In the end, in the evening, we received the pillow. Clean it was not, as the cover had some fungi on it. Also, the housekeeping left a dirty (hair) cleaning rag directly on our table - not very nice of them...

The breakfast is very basic and usually it is better to eat in one of the nearby brasseries (except for Mondays - when almost everything is closed)

We have just returned from spending a week here with our three young children. We have spent our days around the hotel pool, on the beach and at the local water park. Rooms clean and comfortable, staff friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Lots of nice restaurants within walking distance, train station 5 mins away and beach 5 mins walk away. Buffet breakfast nice and lunch available around the pool. Our second visit and would definately go back.

Spacious and clean room.

However poor service- had to carry own luggage into room as no porter, then a lady entered our room with a  bottle of wine and clearly it was not her room-reception dismissed it as she was the maid (obviously not) , no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, they did not know how to make a cocktail and thought we asked a ridiculous question when we asked where the gym was- once again their answer was 'we do not have the facilities'. The owners where generally rude where by they did not have enough staff supporting the hotel. When we called for an iron-reception said 'come and get it yourself as I am the only one here' I find this utterly ridiculous for such as expensive hotel where we had expected standard facilities as normal and service with a smile which we did not receive but instead was welcomed with rudeness.

Think before you book this one but beaulieu was amazing !!!

We booked a single night on our way north to Austria.

The hotel really surprised us in a positive way. The staff was very polite and helpful and our room was spacious, very clean and had a nice view to the sea.

It is only a short stroll from the ocean and 15 minuttes from the harbor with nice restaurants.
In all a positive experience.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for the better rooms.
