La Reserve de Beaulieu Hotel & Spa

It feels as a bit like it is the early 20th century while staying at the hotel.....the common spaces are lovely and certainly not trendy.....they are luxurious and reminiscent of what luxury used to mean. The grounds are quite well maintained....the rooms are spacious and quite comfortable and the swimming pool area is classically stylish. The surrounding area immediately outside of the hotel is not the most beautiful and in addition, there is an abandoned hotel that is visible when swimming in the water beyond the hotel....hopefully this will be operational soon. As a comparison, the aesthetic of this hotel is much more discreet than Grand Hotel Du Cap Ferrat, which is quite close and I suppose a similar category hotel. In addition, La Reserve does not have the same vast property and gardens of the other hotel yet it still offers a good deal of style.

What a wonderful hotel, a perfect setting, with friendly helpful staff. The in-house trio on violin, guitar and keyboard were great! The food was splendid and the relaxed feeling was wonderful to experience. Truly a great first day to our holiday and we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: When the say view over car park - you still have a sea view, so don't worry. Just make sure you...

Lovely property on the Mediterranean, salt water pool no beachfront. Rooms are clean, neat, not particularly modern but do meet all your needs. Exceptional concierge, our rental car had a brake failure and he arranged for the car to be exchanged and new vehicle delivered to the hotel without our involvement. Very helpful, pleasant staff. The hotel in some part is a throw back to a different era. Of course rates in the summer are beyond reasonable. My major complaint was that food was outrageously expense. A club sandwich at poolside was approximately $75, continental breakfast approximately $40. Exorbitant food expense does speak to a lack of understanding of guest needs. That being said, planning to return again next year.

Room Tip: summer is extremely expensive

To say this hotel was a disappoint would be an understatement. In high season rooms start at $1400 and this would be a difficult rate to swallow even if the service and experience had been impeccable. La Reserve is unfortunately resting on its laurels, which it earned as a grand hotel in the 1970s. Unfortunately the owners have done NOTHING to update the property since. The rooms are antiquated and the service, in particular the restaurant staff, is appalling. Additionally, the food is prohibitively expensive; think $200 for a casual lunch for two by the pool. The entire experience left us wondering what exactly our $1400 a night was getting us. For example, unlike Hotel Du Cap, there are no beautiful "grounds" to speak of. This place is a dump.

Room Tip: there are no good rooms. go elsewhere.

while the public spaces are still quite pretty, this hotel is in terrible need of a renovation.    we were paying 1100 euros per night and as such would have expected a flawless experience. the rooms are shabby and worn and the bathrooms are dingy.  the service, in particular at the pool restaurant, is atrocious. the staff is surly and disorganized and the food is absurdly overpriced.  Gazpacho for 50 euros!  This also extends to the mini bar where a small bottle of figi water was priced out at 13 euros.  lining the halls of the hotel are headshots of famous actors who have stayed at the property in the past. of the several actors I recognized, most of their careers had peaked in the late 1970s, which was also around the time of their visit and apparently the last time the hotel was in any respectable condition.

This wasn't the first time we have stayed or dined at La Reserve, but it was the most memorable. We are not of the Great and Good, but when we stay there we are made to feel as if we were. This last occasion was to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately my wife has motor neuron disease and has great difficulty in swallowing. No problem for the Head Chef: for each course that I and our friends had, he produced a miniature version for her in the form of a mousse, with the same tastes as we were enjoying, Breakfast the next morning was equally well thought out.For us it is the hotel staff that make La Reserve so special. You wish that they all could be your best friends. The easy but respectful informality, the genuine desire to make your stay special, puts this hotel several cuts above the rest.

Room Tip: The best value are the ones looking out over the gardens and pool towards the sea

Rita Hayworth, Clark Gable, Paul Newman, Charlie Chaplin, Edith Piaf, Jean Marais, Frank Sinatra and many more have all stayed here.

The hotel has its own harbour, so you can take your large motor boat and sail directly to the hotel. :-)

La Reserve´s current owners are Nicole and Jean-Claude Delion, who have dedicated their life to this palace, and sworn that they will continue the old traditions and virtues that belong here.

Olivier Brulard, who is the chef at La Reserve, has won Meilleur Ouvrier de France in 1996 (chef of the year). He spends a lot of care on every detail, and the various taste nuances of the food are put together in a fantastic way, so if you don’t want to stay here, we recommend that you at least have dinner here, if you are in the area anyway…

Spa and massage are a matter of course at this hotel.
