Antibes is a lovely town, and some of the best views of the coast from Nice to Juan-Les-Pins are from the Chateau Grimaldi. The museum is a must for anyone interested in Picasso, as it clearly shows the terrific skill he had in simple early drawing and painting, and how this then translated to his greater better known works. There is a lot to see if you want to study all the pictures, but equally the galleries are laid out in such a way to help an easy run through Picasso's life, and the historical context of his work.

I visited the Musee Picasso with my girlfriend last weekend as a day trip from Nice. The entry was only 3€ with student ID (6€ without) and the views from the terrace on the third floor alone were worth the price of admission. The museum doesn't have his most well known pieces but does have an entire floor of pottery, sketches, and paintings he did, many of which relate to the region and his time in Antibes. The Musee doesn't take all day to explore and the town is nice too. Definitely recommend taking an afternoon to see the views and the crazy art from one of my favorites.

I never understood art of Picasso, but the museum located in Antibes helps in thinking, that he had some point in it :)

You're not going to find Picasso's greatest or best known works in this museum - those are mostly in the larger, big city museums - but the collection in the Antibes museum is lovely and works by other artists are also displayed. For me, why I keep going back is about the building and the view out the back on the sculpture terrace. The building is in what appears to be an old fort, and the interior has been renovated in a wonderful, rustic style that makes the artwork "pop." I want those floors (!) and on the interior, you view masterful artwork in what has the feel of history and the coastal environment. The best for me is the sculpture terrace out the back. As I child, I discovered Picasso's "Goat" at New York's Museum of Modern Art, and several of the pieces on this terrace remind me of that piece, at least in style. The setting is stunning, with a view of over the ocean and towards Cap d'Antibes. Being in that environment, surrounded by these masterful sculptures has been one of my favorite things to do when I'm in the Cote d'Azur.

Musee Picasso was the perfect size for me - big enough to showcase a number of works, but small enough so that it never became tedious. The museum is housed in the Chateau Grimaldi, and beautiful historic building overlooking the sea. Outside there is a very pleasant sculpture garden. A great place to spend a few hours on a sunny afternoon. The museum closes at lunchtime (at least in October), so check hours. Also, my daughter received discounted admission with her college ID.
