“excellent italian food in small neighborhood restaurant”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

Small, cozy restaurant in the old town of Antibes serving simple, fresh Italian food made right in front of you in the open kitchen. We enjoyed our meal, and found the service to be very friendly and efficient. The prices were reasonable, and found this to be a good dinner option if looking for a small “neighborhood” restaurant. Reservations are recommended, as there are very few tables.

“Nice Italian food in Antibes”
Reviewed August 2, 2011

While visting Antibes, I ate there two times and was really pleased with the food. It has the genuine Italian feel to it, with few ingridens and lots of love.

“Formidable!”
Reviewed July 20, 2011

Mamalu is a restaurant that we visit several times each summer. The entrées and the fresh tuna are our favorites, but the freshly cooked pasta is also wonderful!
The owner - and hostess/waitress - Marcia, is the most charming and energetic Italian woman, and paired with the cosy atmosphere and interior, all of the above makes every visit unique and worthwhile.

“Good food but disinterested waitress”
Reviewed July 5, 2011

We kept forgetting to book while on holiday so were given a table which was unfortunately located on the pavement and therefore very public. We had a delicious meal but I'm afraid the waitress seemed totalling disinterested with our attempts at conversation and made no response at all. All the action seemed to be concentrated inside the restaurant with perhaps regular diners. Would return because the food was so good but definitely book and then perhaps we would be given proper attention next time. Disappointing!!

“Fresh and creative Italian food at reasonable prices”
Reviewed April 26, 2011

This is neighbourhood Italian rather than top-flight cuisine and this is reflected in most aspects of the meal. Nevertheless, the food is cooked to order and creative. Butternut pumpkin tortelli with radicchio is a terrific combination - creative if not entirely original - and other dishes were similarly interesting (along with a couple of more standard options). There were four or five vegetarian options as well as a starter (buffalo mozarella and grilled vegetables).

We had initially booked somewhere else but, on arrival, decided that place wasn't for us. We were very happy to get a table at Mamalu instead (after a half-hour wait at the Sens wine bar round the corner, which I would also recommend).

Service was fine (though certainly not friendly, one had the impression that the poor waitress was a bit too busy to smile). Wine was well-chosen though overpriced (mark-ups at a level more reminiscent of London).

Desserts were also fine (though not quite as good as the mains).

All that being said, we had a good time and were happy we chose Mamalu. I would have no hesitation recommending the place to friends. And the overall price was very reasonable, all things considered.
