“Fantastic Castle like Oasis awaits amongst the vineyards”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Chateauneuf du Pape wine region. Fantastic service and the rooms are well appointed and quaint. You can ask for one with a bath tub because not all come with one. The restaurant cuisine was fantastic serving a fine breakfast and a delicous and beautifully presented dinner. It appears as a large castle but once you are inside it is very homey, comfortable and cozy. By far the nicest place to stay and dine in the area. Everything about this hotel is relaxing. Very good value for the money and I will absolutely return.

Room Tip: Not all rooms come with a tub so if it's important to you be sure to request a bath. All rooms l...

It was like a fairytail. To live like a princesse in a fantastic place in the middle of vineyards with a small swimming pool, very cozy and comfortable. Helpful and welcomming staff. Clean roooms. Exellent food and wine. Loved all of it.

The location is lovely and the hotel looks almost like a fairy tale castle as it stands amidst the vineyards with a long lane bordered with cypress trees leading to its' courtyard. On the evening we arrived the hotel was hosting a special event and I felt as if we were slightly swept under the carpet. In fact, the staff at the desk avoided looking as us for a minute or two until a woman, who appeared to be the manager, arrived. She was quite friendly and welcomed us and then we were quickly taken to our room. Very little information was shared, not even the location of the dining room or where breakfast was to be served the next morning. While the room was well appointed and very comfortable, the bath certainly was small as advertised; the shower was barely big enough for a grown man. We had a nice view over the pool but it looked as if it could use a good cleaning; admittedly it was September but if you're going to keep the pool open, then you should keep it clean. The meal we had in the restaurant was OK but not nearly as good as the other meals we enjoyed during our 4 week vacation in France. The menu du jour wasn't described anywhere on the menu and the server didn't explain what was being served either. I quite honestly wasn't sure if my main course was chicken or salmon until I'd had 2 bites! The entire meal was quite rushed as well. The drive leading to the chateau definitely needs work, there are several holes in the pavement, some of them fairly large. On the morning that we were checking out we had to wait for the manager to arrive before we could settle our bill. I looked at the policy and our checkout time wasn't at a time that we needed to pre-arrange so this was a little annoying as it delayed our departure a bit. Overall, for a 4 star property it does not meet the expectations. We've stayed at various other 4 star properties in France and this one could definitely use some attention if it expects to maintain that classification. This hotel does not offer good value for the money spent.

Wonderful views, comfortable spacious rooms. Very nice bathrooms. Swimming pool.
Fantastic breakfast buffet. Very nice dinner offered also for extra. Wifi not free but not too expensive. Very enjoyable stay. Also there is a winery for wine tasting next door.

Look - the service at this hotel wasn't the best. But I didn't stay here for service. I stayed here because I wanted to feel like a princess in a castle in the south of france. And that I did - there is a really cute village near by with great restaurants that are well priced - we chose to eat here rather than at the hotel itself which was quite expensive. There is a cellar door here which we had a great time in and the guy who served our tasting was very knowledgeable. Our room was really pretty and overlooked the vineyards and I just loved staying in a real castle. I wouldn't go back to stay as it was an expensive, once in a life time kind of thing, but I'd visit the cellar door again. Enjoyed sitting around the pool having a few wines etc.

We stayed for two nights at this hotel in a room on the first floor overlooking the pool and the vineyards beyond. It was beautiful. The staff were lovely and we were happy we chose to stay in a real chateau. The room was decorated in a simple provincial style which worked well given the location.

The only real negatives were that the rather small shower/bathroom. It would have been lovely with a big old bath. Plus the hotel rules stated that you could not bring picnics and eat them on the terrace. We understand that there is a restaurant there however somewhere else to sit and drink a bottle of wine and watch the sun go down would have been perfect.

We did dine at the restaurant one was night and we were very happy with the food and wine.

Chateauneuf-du-Pape itself is a short drive away although it was mostly shut over the weekend (everything shuts at noon Saturday until Monday morning). The scenery is just stunning though and well worth a visit.
