Description: Set next to Avignon's magnificent Palace of the Popes, Restaurant Christian Etienne is a divine dining destination with sweeping views of the city and of the Rhone valley. Michelin-starred chef Christian Etienne is passionate about food, and his seasonal menu – themed on tomatoes in summer, truffles in winter, asparagus in spring and mushrooms in autumn – has been inspired by the kitchens of his mother and grandmothers. This is a sensational spot for meals with a view, and the food certainly lives up to the restaurant's stunning setting. Etienne's signature dish is the roasted lobster claws served with asparagus and a confit of fresh ginger root and sesame seeds, and the restaurant has a superb Cote du Rhone-led wine list.

During our Michelin star cuisine tour in south france we finished the tour at Avignon and visited Chrisitan Etienne's historical place. I choose the tomato menu and was surprised how much stuff you can make with tomato's. Even the dessert included tomato's. The atmosphere and service was excellent.

Went here thinking it was the best in Avignon. the service was excellent, atmosphere excellent. Presentation excellent. One dish however was very very eclectic (it smelled bad). Saucisson de cochon de lait. would not go back.

We only had one day at Avignon and we spent a lot of time trying to decide where we were going to head for dinner. I think we couldn't have chosen better!:-) The location is perfect, right in the heart of the city by Palace of the Popes and the Avignon bridge, the decor both inside and on the terrace is inviting and cosy, the service is impeccable and the menus are mouthwatering. We took the Menu du Palais and Menu Homard and we shared the dishes. We were equally impressed with both menus and we would definitely go back. Definitely a staple when in Avignon ( even if we didn't get a chance to dine elsewhere).

That was an excellent fine dinning experience we had in Avignon. I had Menu Gibier and my husband had Menu Cochon. The dishes were very creative and delicious. Superb! Christian Etienne not only has the high quality food but also the service to match. A must have in Avignon!!!

Both my wife and I chose the €85 tasting menu and every course was a delight. The sommelier offered a local wine from Domaine du Tix which was exactly the right accompaniment. The service was impeccable. You can't improve on perfection!
