The lovely historic apartment gives you a feel of the period suited to Avignon and yet ensures a contemporary lifestyle as it is equipped with high quality fittings and appliances to take care of every need . It is very tastefully decorated, spacious and super comfortable and all details are well thought out from an Avignon map with highlights bookmarked to sun hats in the closets and a good stock of green tea / coffee / soft drinks for the guests.
It's a perfect location as All the places to visit & restaurants are within walking distance.
True to all the other reviews Amaury is a gem of a person who offers his help with utmost generosity and is always just a call away. He is a super host and went out of his way to make us comfortable and took the time to chalk out a itinerary during our stay.
Small requests are just handled with courtesy and politeness- he is extremely well informed and his suggestions regarding restaurants/ places to visit around Avignon are perfect ....would love to stay there again
Stop looking and book this place.Amaury is the most gracious host and the apartment is gorgeous. It has everything you could possibly want to make your stay in Avignon absolutely perfect.
This clean and spacious place is so beautifully decorated and lighted (think HGTV) that it will put you in such a good and relax mood. Comfortable beds and baths. Fantastic host that not only welcome us to the place at almost mid night due to our side trip to Colioure for Lunch but also guided us out in the early morning hours when we checked out.
This place is located quietly at the end of a street inside the wall and so close to the Pope's Palace that we walked everywhere.
Our host Amaury warned us to rent a small car as the streets inside the city wall are very narrow but being from Texas, we rented a full size van and almost got stuck on a few turns. Luckily, he met us down the street and help guided us in.
My parents, husband, and I stayed in the artist's studio (4 bedroom) for 5 nights in late June/early July 2016. I was the planner for the vacation and therefore very concerned with creating a wonderfully memorable experience for the family's trip to Provence. I couldn't have selected a better property. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by Amaury, the sweetest and most generous host, who helped us settle in and get acclimated to the area. His 16th century home was gorgeously renovated and decorated, the kitchen was stocked with all necessary cooking and serving pots, dishes, and utensils, and the home was very clean. The beds were comfortable, the water pressure was great, the Babyliss blow dryer was powerful (something you don't often find in European rentals) and the air conditioning units in the bedrooms kept us nice and cool during the July heat. Most of our time in the home was spent gathered around the large kitchen table, socializing, eating fresh bread, cheese and olives and drinking the amazing local wine. I highly recommend following Amaury's lunch, dinner, and pastry recommendations. They were a hit with my family who raved about having the best meals of their lives in Avignon. Getting around the city from the home was easy by foot, which was especially wonderful for exploring the sites, markets, and restaurants. One tip for travelers renting a car in Avignon - go small :) The Ford C-Max we rented could be driven down the streets, but was very challenging at times for my husband to navigate. Overall, our experience renting the home from Amaury was phenomenal and one that I'd highly recommend to others looking to make beautiful memories in Provence.
Believe the reviews! This accommodation is unlike any other, with fastidious and artful attention to details. We stayed here with three adults and two teenagers and there was plenty of living space for all. Amaury was a most gracious and helpful host. A few suggestions: enjoy Avignon, rather than use it as a jumping off point for the rest of Provence so that you can enjoy the town and these incredible digs (you will not want to leave). Embrace Amaury's suggestions and bring the smallest car that can possibly accommodate your luggage if you are driving, for the streets are ancient, tiny, and Byzantine. This Atelier is well worth the extra coin if you appreciate sumptuous and transformative living -- which is the whole point of going to the likes of Avignon in the first place. Recommended unreservedly for those with full mobility.
If you are reading this review all I can say is stop looking and book now! We stayed over the new year and wish we never had to leave.
Amaury is the most amazing host! He will make sure your stay is special and wonderful. He went to the train station 3 separate times to get each one of our party. He went out of his way to get us to lunch on our first day before everything shut. He knows the area and will not steer you wrong. Ask him, his advice and suggestions are amazing. Jill his partner is wonderful. They are 2 of the warmest people you will ever meet.
The apartment is beautifully appointed and immaculate. We had great evenings sitting by the fire, drinking wine and enjoying each other. It is centrally located and easy to get around Avignon as well as for exploring Provence.
My husband and I have never repeated a visit to any vacation spot until now. We will be back and can't wait to stay with Amaury!
Our American family of four (two boys 9 and 6) stayed four nights at the Atelier d'artiste in Avignon. We were a bit nervous bringing the boys to Avignon, not certain there was enough to keep them busy. We were wrong.
Our fantastic Avignon adventure started when Amaury, the property owner, met us at the apartment entrance. Amaury is a wonderful man, spending 25+ minutes showing us the apartment (how to use the A/C, washer/dryer, etc) and providing an oral history of the artist and building he used as his residence and studio. When the home tour was completed, Amaury spent another 30+ minutes making recommendations for dining and entertainment. He took our kids likes/dislikes into account. We visited three of his recommended dining spots... and wow were they great. Much more personal than picking from tripadvisor. Amaury really got our Avignon trip off to a great start.
The apartment itself is beautifully decorated and truly amazing for a 16th century building. It retains much of its historic character while simultaneously offering modern amenities (a/c, wifi, great kitchen, etc). The kids room in the attic is also well thought out... our kids especially enjoyed the spiral stair case that leads up to that room. It was nice having a garage for the car since I can't imagine trying to find a parking spot within the walls of the city. The washer/dryer was also a plus. While the pictures on the property page are representative of the place, the apartment in person is much more charming and beautiful.
We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. In fact, I wouldn't even look at other properties in Avignon before booking here again. Amaury added so much to our trip that separating the apartment from his hospitality is hard to do.
