Accommodation to us is a very important item on our holiday agenda. If it is wrong the holiday is ruined. We read holiday reviews and take photographs into account before deciding where to stay. When choosing Avignon we looked at a number of places to stay. Various price levels. We thought that the Hotel Le Colbert appeared nice and had good reports. The truth is that you never know until you try it yourself.
Just in case our experience helps this is what we found. A lovely boutique hotel in a quite street close to the city (within 100 m). A beautiful quite park was within about 50 m - where it was nice to sit in the shade out of the sun. A lovely place to have a light lunch. The local boulangerie supplied excellent quality rolls, confectionary and drinks at reasonable prices - about £9.00 for two. The hotel is very close to a launderette (in another street about 100 m) and a hairdressing salon in the same street about 50 m away.
The hotel is decorated in bright Provencal colours. The dinning room, sitting room and courtyard are beautifully furnished with plenty of interest in the form of posters and collectables.
The bedroom we had also had a sitting area. Air conditioning was efficient and kept the room at about 18c. The two windows were large and were covered with good curtains so you could block out as much light as you wanted. The bed was good, clean and comfortable. The bed linen was changed daily. The shower room was totaly adequate and the toliet was separate in a small closet within the room. Lighting was good and controllable to set the right ambience. TV let us keep up to date with UK news other programmes were in French.
Patrice speaks excellent English and advised on various places to visit and restaurants to use. He was right in his choices and mindful that although we were on holiday we did not want to pay stupid amounts for food daily. High prices are for special occasions.
Annie worked hard in suppling good Provencal food, including fantastic crepes with honey, almonds or chocolate. Patrice workded hard in serving at the tables and always asked had you had enough or did you want anything else.
The Hotel Le Colbert is a good experience. Annie and Patrice gave this Hotel faces to remember. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Their dogs Britney and Newton are real stars staying in the office/reception area. They go nowhere near the Dining area or Guest rooms.
The weather was sunny and warm all the time we stayed just like this hotel.
When it came to settling the bill we felt that we had received excellent value for money and that the owners had gone out of their way to make our stay memorable.. When travelling to Avignon in the future we will not need to look for advice regarding where to stay as we have found the place at which we would choose to stay. Based on our experience we recommend Hotel Le Colbert to you, and can assure you, that you will probably feel as we do after your visit.
