“A family friendly green haven with a wonderful view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2014

This is a standout attraction if you are staying in or visiting Avignon with young children. There are few green public parks within the city walls, making Rocher des Doms all the more valuable. Kids can run around, check out the fish in the grotto, enjoy the playground or burn around on the 'pedal horses' (can be hired for a small fee). The views over Provence are very pretty and you can see 360 degrees from the highest point. There is a cafe near the duck pond for the obligatory ice cream, but I wouldn't recommend the coffee... yuk. All in all a nice spot to escape the Avignon cobblestones.

“lovely view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2013

Avignon is a walled-in and densely populated city; this is the nicest park in the city; and the highest point and best place to take in the vistas. A visit to Avignon is not complete without a stop here.

“Worth a look”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

The views are great over the town, river and distant hills.
It's a bit scruffy and the loos are dire so go to a cafe first!
We take all our visitors there and everyone enjoys the trip. It is uphill but easily so.

“From the terraces are superb distant views and also city and river panoramas”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2013

On top of the cliffs above the Rhone, Rocher des Doms faces Villeneuve-lez-Avignon across the river. The gardens and spacious panoramic terraces can be reached by the steps leading from the Cathedral Notre Dame des Doms, by steps from the banks of the Rhône, or via the Sainte-Anne steps taking in the views of the roofs of Avignon.
Wheel chair friendly access ramps can be used from the Place des Palais des Papes.
The various viewpoints give wide panoramas over the Rhone, Place des Palais des Papes, Pont Saint Bénezet (the old Bridge of Avignon), and distant views of Mont Ventoux. (Early morning views can sometimes be clearer, and the area more serene. A grotto, pond and fountain, shady children’s playground and toilet facilities are nearby.

“the best sightseeing for Avignon and all the lands around”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2013

Le Rocher des Domes it's a garden right next door to the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Domes. It is free to visit but I believe it closes by 7 p.m.
It is a really enjoyable place and if you're visiting Avignon in a hot sunny day it is a nice place to find a shadow and to rest a little bit.
Inside it has a memorial to those who were killed in the first and second world wars, a lovely playground for children, lakes with ducks and kois right by a café were you can take a drink or buy a postcard of the Provence.
Once, in the early ages, this hill was a natural fortress that helped to defend Avignon from enemies but today it is the best sightseeing for the city and all the lands around. It is also the best place to photograph the clock of the Place d'Horloge, and one of the best places to photograph the Pont de Saint-Bénézet.
